Affection Section
While Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is so much more than what guests would find at a regular zoo, there is one area of the park that allows guests to get up close and personal with different animals, much like one would have the opportunity to at a zoological center. Located, in Rafiki’s Planet Watch, the park’s backstage research, education and conservation center, the Affection Section is an animal encounter that every guest should take the time to visit!
The Affection Section is home to different species of animals that are available for petting and interacting with. The featured animals are goats and sheep; among them are several species that were close to extinction, while other animals in the Affection Section include pigs, llamas and chicken. Take time to ask Cast Members about the different kinds of animals here, as there are several rare species that you may be surprised to find!
Because of its nature, the Affection Section does have a certain amount of rules and guidelines to abide by for those guests visiting the area. First of all, everyone (especially children) who pet any animals are encouraged to wash their hands before and after they interact with any of the animals. For the animals’ safety, flash photography is also not allowed, and neither are service animals, as they may scare some of the animals located at the Affection Section. This area can also be one of the hottest ones in the entire park because of its open nature, so we also suggest visiting this area either in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the hottest parts of the day. If you do want to sit back and watch the happenings without actually interacting with the animals, there is seating in the area where guests can get some much-needed rest.
Rafiki’s Planet Watch is one of the most interactive areas of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and the Affection Section is just one example of that. There are six lands inside this theme park, and all are filled with hands-on exhibits, animal encounters and side-splitting thrills. But, despite the many attractions here, there are many more areas of the Walt Disney World Resort for guests to explore. In fact, the Walt Disney World Resort is comprised of four main theme parks, two water parks and an entertainment complex, Downtown Disney, to ensure that each and every guest can find something to their liking while on vacation in Central Florida.
