Africa at Disney Animal Kingdom
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park has six lands – Discovery Island, Dinoland U.S.A., Asia, Camp Minnie-Mickey, Africa and Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Located in the back corner of the park, many guests may see the land of Africa as being home to what many consider the park’s trademark attractions, the Kilimanjaro Safaris, but in reality, it has so much more to offer anyone willing to make the trek to the area. Great shopping, dining, and more!
As we mentioned, the Kilimanjaro Safaris is a 100 acre adventure through the “Harambe Wildlife Reserve” in Harambe, Africa. Each 32-passenger, all-terrain vehicle is ushered through the re-created African savanna by a tour guide, who not only serves as your driver but also has extensive knowledge on all of the animals on the reserve and points them out along the way. To add to the excitement of the attraction, your tour guide is in constant contact with a reserve warden who is flying overhead and warns you not far into the attraction that poachers have been spotted. So, after you continue along your way, spotting exotic animals such as giraffes, zebras, rhinos, elephants, crocodiles, lions, hippos and more, your adventure concludes with a raucous race to try to stop these illegal poachers. The Kilimanjaro Safaris is one of the original attractions at Disney Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and it is also the centerpiece on which this magnificent park was built.
From an exploration through African terrain to a trail through the heart of a lush tropical rain forest to see animals that are native to the land, the Pangani Forest Expedition Trail is just one of a series of exhibits and observation posts around Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park that allows guests to see exotic animals in re-creations of their natural habitats. This 20-30 minute trek includes glimpses as animals such as Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Naked Mole Rats, Meercats, Hippos and Gorillas. And don't forget to check out the Kali River Rapids.
While Africa is one of the must-see areas of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, there are many more attractions and areas of the Walt Disney World Resort for guests to explore.
