Africa Shopping
Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park has six lands – Discovery Island, Dinoland U.S.A.® Area, Asia®, Camp Minnie-Mickey, Africa and Rafiki’s Planet Watch® Land. Located in the back corner of the park, many guests may see the land of Africa as being home to what many consider the park’s trademark attraction, the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition, but in reality, it has so much more to offer anyone willing to make the trek to the area, including merchandise locations that can bring the heart of this African village right back home with you.
As we mentioned, the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition is the main attraction in this area. This 100-acre adventure through the “Harambe Wildlife Reserve” in Harambe, Africa is the highlight of many guests’ visit to Disney Animal Kingdom® Theme Park because of the vast array of wildlife and animals they get to see up close and personal on the reserve. For this very reason, the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition are also the best place for a photo op in the entire park. While the Tree of Life may serve as a good backdrop to a picture, nothing beats catching a lion napping high upon a rock or an elephant wallowing in a watering hole. If you have made the trip out to the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition without a camera, you can still catch that perfect photo if you stop by Duka La Filimu, a store hosted by Kodak near the entrance to this attraction. Here, you will find film, disposable cameras and even batteries to make sure you leave the attraction with these once-in-a-lifetime photos.
After you exit the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition, be on the lookout for the Mombasa Marketplace/Ziwani Traders. This merchandise location really transports you to the heart of Harambe, with African import items such as wood carvings, hand-painted gifts, African sarongs, African percussion and wood instruments and gourds. But, this location also serves as a good place to pick up standard merchandise items such as Kilimanjaro Safari® Expedition T-shirts and vests, or other generic souvenirs like mugs and Disney trading pins.

After you have your theme park tickets secured for the Walt Disney World® Resort theme parks, it is important to begin making some plans for your time in the parks. In addition to knowing about which rides you want to hit in the parks (like the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition), there are also certain tips that are important to remember regarding the merchandise you purchase in the parks. First, if you are a guest at a Walt Disney World® Resort hotel, you can take advantage of free package delivery to your hotel room and you can also charge purchases directly to your room account by a simple swipe of your Key to the World card. If you are not staying at a Walt Disney World® Resort hotel, you can still have your package sent to the Package Express Pickup Window at the front of the park so that you don’t have to lug your bags around with you all day. In addition, for an extra fee, your purchases can be shipped anywhere in the world via FedEx – just anticipate adding a few extra days onto your shipping because of processing delays at the Walt Disney World® Resort.
Whether you are coming to Central Florida for a day or for a week, we hope these above tips will help you make your vacation to the Sunshine State your best – and most economical – family vacation ever!
