EPCOT'S Spaceship Earth is Getting a Facelift

Over the past 25 years, anyone who visits Walt Disney World's EPCOT Park is familiar with its iconic symbol : the 18 story, silver ball called a "Geosphere" known as Spaceship Earth. Spaceship Earth is not only the name of a ride at EPCOT, but also their trademark structure. Since Epcot's grand opening in 1982, Spaceship Earth has been the signature ride, and the universal symbol of Epcot. Spaceship Earth is a 15 minute ride that shows the human advancement and development from the days of cavemen, all the way to today's Internet era. Within a few months, Spaceship Earth will undergo an interior renovation in order to give the attraction a more updated, futuristic feel. The ride's updates will include: new scenes, new costumes, new special effects, new music, a brand new narrator and a futuristic interactive ending. The omnimover vehicles will act as your interactive "time-machines" will now have an interactive screen installed where riders can chose their own landscape of the future. When Spaceship Earth reopens in 2008, it is going to be reborn as a ride into the futureworld.
Spaceship Earth's post-ride area will be re-named : Project Tomorrow : Inventing the World of Tomorrow. There will be state-of-the-art interactive exhibits and games such as Body Builder, a 3-D virtual attraction where guests will be able to build and create a digital human body. Super Driver will be a new driving simulation virtual-reality arcade game where you can test and learn about vehicle accident avoidance systems. All renovations will be completed in separate phases and should be finished by early 2008. This news is truly exciting for Walt Disney World and EPCOT, as it opens the doors for some great additions and future plans for the theme park.
