Walt Disney World Endurance Events
-730526.jpg) Walt Disney World has many special events all throughout the year at its parks. And as everyone knows, when Disney dose something, they do it big! The Walt Disney World Marathon weekend and other endurance events throughout the year are a great example of this and a fantastic way for you to see and visit the Walt Disney World Resort and see a whole new side of the Mouse.
There are over 270 miles of endurance events every year at the Walt Disney World Resort, which begin with the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend at the beginning of January each year. The 2008 event will take place from January 10-13 and will feature the full marathon, half marathon, kids’ races, a 5K run and a health and fitness expo. The half marathon in 2008 has already reached capacity, but the full marathon is currently at 85 percent capacity, so if you are interested in running over 23 miles through the happiest place on earth, you better sign up now! If a marathon isn’t enough for you, Walt Disney World also has a triathlon scheduled coming up soon for September 23, 2007. Registration is still taking place, and the event consists of a 1.5K swim, 58K bike and a 10K run. Disney also hosts an ironman competition in May and even has an inline Marathon Weekend in May as well.
While endurance races are usually ran by those looking to improve cardiovascular fitness or to reach a goal, Disney also offers some races where the participants are there for different reasons – to help someone else. The Go Red For Women 5K and one mile (otherwise known as the Minnie Marathon) and the Susan G. Komen Central Florida Race for the Cure in September are good examples of ways for runners and walkers to show their support for a good cause while also enjoying the sights and sounds of the Walt Disney World Resort.
Disney also has a few more endurance events throughout the year, and a few that are themed and/or center around special events in the parks. Disney’s Race for the Taste, which will be taking place on October 7, 2007, lets you enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. As you make your way through Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex, the Disney-MGM Studios, Disney’s Boardwalk Resort and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, you will have a plethora of tastes and smells waiting for you at the finish line at Epcot.
Days before Halloween, Disney also hosts the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K, a special nighttime race that doesn’t begin until 9:30 p.m. and has an after party that lasts until 1 a.m. at the Disney-MGM Studios. Runners of this race will end in the shadows of the haunted Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride and can even catch a quick ride when they finish this 8.1 mile run.
All of the above endurance events, and more, are all unique and extremely popular events at the Walt Disney World Resort each year. Be sure to register for them early, and for all of your ticket needs while you are in town for the events, check out the best discounted Disney tickets that only Orlando Fun Tickets can provide!
