Kennedy Space Center- A 45 Minute Drive into Space
A day at Kennedy Space Center gives visitors the chance to see and do things they could not do anyplace else in the world. You will feel like you’re a part of great moments past as you travel through America’s history in space in the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame®. As you walk through the newly re-developed Rocket Garden, you can get up close and personal with the actual Redstone, Atlas and Titan rockets that carried the first astronauts into space. In the International Space Station Center, guests can see what it is like to live in space, as visitors get to enter and explore a full-scale mock-up of the Habitation Module where the crew members live, work and sleep while visiting the International Space Station.
The first week in November, the Kennedy Space Center is celebrating “50 Years of NASA” with the World Space Expo. The Expo includes a weekend air show, a special 50th Anniversary exhibit, tributes to several astronauts and a commercial pavilion showcasing the latest in aviation from around the globe.
A visit to Kennedy Space Center can also give you a front seat to a rocket launch; a Delta 4-Heavy rocket is scheduled to launch on November 8 at 8:44 p.m. If you will be in town in the next couple of months, you may even get to see one of the most fantastic sights imaginable, the launching of a space shuttle into space. The shuttle Atlantis is now preparing for a launch that is scheduled to take place on December 8 at 4:30 p.m. There is really nothing quite like viewing a shuttle launch in person. It is truly amazing to watch.
