If you have never been to the Richard Petty Driving Experience at the Walt Disney World Resort, you are missing out. This attraction is a must for any NASCAR fan and a great way for the men in your group to get a break from princesses and autographs at the Disney theme parks. Located behind the Magic Kingdom’s parking lot in the Walt Disney World Speedway, the Richard Petty Driving Experience offers a number of racecar experiences for drivers of all levels.

Choose from four different experiences varying in time and the amount of laps. The Ride-Along experience will make you the passenger as a pro driver zooms around the track at speeds of up to 145 mph. If you would rather take the wheel, you can choose from the Rookie, King’s or Experience of a Lifetime packages. All of these sessions include 40 minute safety training classes both in the car and outside the car. You are given a helmet and all other necessary driving clothing, but you must wear closed-toe shoes. For the Ride-Along experience, the minimum age is 16 years old (with parental consent). For all other packages at the Richard Petty Driving Experience, you must be 18 years and older with a valid driver’s license to participate in the program.

There are 18 speedways in total within the Richard Petty Driving Experience family, but the Magic Kingdom location plans to be the top landmark in the attraction’s family. Officials are already planning to add on events to encourage participation from people of all ages including a racing-kart program and a safe-driving program for teenagers. In honor of the attraction’s new events and great programs, like a discount for frequent drivers, the Richard Petty Driving experience will be hosting its first King’s Cup.

This special event will feature races where guests can compete against each other driving 600 horsepower stock cars. The winner will receive the best honor of all: a trophy from Richard Petty himself! “The King” will be on hand throughout the day telling his favorite racing stories, give you safety tips on your driving experience and posing for photo opportunities with his loyal fans.

“It’s all about giving the folks who come out to ride or drive with us an experience they will never forget,” said The King, who has won 7-time NASCAR Championships and 7 Daytona 500’s. “We want everyone to really enjoy their time with us.” The Kings Cup special event will be held this September at the Walt Disney World Speedway, but you can experience the Richard Petty Driving Experience year round!
