High School Musical China

Director Chen Shi Zheng and producer Janet Yang will film High School Musical: China, working with the Shanghai Media Group and the Huayi Brothers Media Corporation. In the Chinese version, a female student meets a young man with a secret talent for singing. Together they encourage each other to sing and enter an inter-school competition where they win and, of course, their relationship blossoms.
“Disney’s ongoing commitment to local content development underpins our strategy to connect with new audiences around the world,” said Mr. Jason Reed, general manager, Walt Disney Studios International Production. “Our local team has done an amazing job and we are fortunate to be building on the Disney Channel’s success by working with a world class cast and crew led by our producer Janet Yang and visionary director Shi Zheng Chen.”
Other movies that have come out under the Asian branch of the Disney Company include The Magic Gourd, Roadside Romeo, Trail of the Panda, Book of Masters. High School Musical: China would be the 3rd project in 2 years to come out of the Chinese branch. It’s a great sign for Disney fans all over the world that are looking forward to seeing some of the popular movies and animations we have in the United States transfer over to different languages and cultures. You can purchase all of the American High School Musical DVD’s in most shops and there is plenty of merchandise from toys to costumes.
This holiday season why not consider some HSM related gifts for the fan in your life? There are probably plenty of girls that would like a Zac Efron poster or an East High School cheerleading outfit. We’re sure the cast members of the Chinese version of High School Musical will become instant teen stars in their native China. We wonder who they’re going to cast?
