Tron Returns
In a world of movie remakes, Disney decided to do things a bit differently. They didn’t create a remake to one of their most popular films ever, instead they decided to modernize it and make a sequel. Later on this year, Tron:Legacy will zoom it’s way into your theatres, once again taking viewers inside the world of computers. To sum up the original, Tron is about people that get trapped inside of what they believed to be a simple arcade game. What they discovered was a world similar to The Matrix, where you can be hurt and interact with other people in a different world…all inside the computer. Now in Tron:Legacy the son of the original program developer must return to see if he can save his father in a darker and far more evolved world than the one some of us saw in the original 1980’s movie. Tron was one of the first films to use extensive computer graphics back in the day and it became an instant cult-classic with sci-fi fanatics. If you want to hear a comedic reason as to why Tron is so great, you can always head to YouTube and look up Tron Guy…he’ll tell you everything! Tron: Legacy hopes to capture a brand new audience and take advantage of the amazing computer technology that wasn’t available back when Disney created the original. A lot has changed in the special effects world since the 1980’s…just look at Avatar, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the cult following Tron has. The Disney theme parks are already getting into Tron mode, ready to promote the movie as much as they can. On your next visit to the Walt Disney World Resort, don’t be surprised if you think you see a “lightcycle” (the motorcycles used in Tron) zooming through the sky. That isn’t a bike…it’s the Monorail that connects the Magic Kingdom and Epcot! Disney recently renovated a Monorail to make it look like a lightcycle and even included the movie logo and colors on the side for the daytime hours. The next time you’re in the parks try to spot the Tron Monorail and check out the movie when it debuts in theatres!
