Up Wins Big at Oscars
The Academy Awards don't really go hand in hand with the Disney theme parks, but this year was very different as the Walt Disney Company had not one, but two films nominated for various Academy Awards. The latest movies to come out of Disney, The Princess and the Frog and Up, were nominated in categories like Best Song, Best Director for an Animated Feature, Best Score for an Animated Feature and even Best Animated Feature. Other great animated films sharing the nominee spots with our Disney favorites were Coraline and the Irish hit The Secret of Kells.
You can catch merchandise from both of the nominated Disney movies across the Walt Disney World Resort in all of the hotels and theme parks. If you loved The Princess and the Frog you’ll enjoy cooking up recipes inspired by the movie in Tiana’s Cookbook, which includes adorable green cupcakes that look like frogs. Or for any fashionistas getting ready to tie the knot, you can look at the Tiana dress from the Disney bridal range.
Up also has great toys and is already out on DVD. If you head to Downtown Disney you can ride the hot air balloon and pretend you’re going on an adventure of your own. But for the people involved in making these great movies, no cookbook or attraction would make them feel their hard work paid off as much as winning an Oscar would. Last Sunday, Michael Giacchino and the entire Up crew went home with a golden Oscar in their hands thanks to the amazing jobs they did for their work in Up.
Giacchino composed the film’s memorable score. He’s quickly rising in the ranks of amazing composers thanks to work on hit films like Star Trek and ABC’s television series LOST. Now he has an Oscar to prove how talented he really is. Up took home the Oscar for Best Animated Film. Pixar is really knocking it out of the park with their films, but there were many fans disappointed that The Princess and the Frog didn’t get the recognition they felt it would. Thankfully you can still experience the characters from these great movies at the parks whenever you visit Orlando, awards season or not!
