The long-running Christian music event, Night of Joy, is making it’s way back
to Disney at the Magic Kingdom starting on Friday, September 10. Disney World recently released the schedule of the two-day event and artists include “Artists of the Year” Third Day, mercyme and Chris Tomlin and 2010 “Artist of the Year” nominees Casting Crowns and Francesca Battistelli.
Also part of the two-night event: David Crowder* Band, Family Force 5, Red, BarlowGirl, Group 1 Crew, Day of Fire, Smokie Norful, Lecrae, 10th Avenue North, Sidewalk Prophets, P.O.D., Newsboys, Kutless, Leeland, Flyleaf, Jars of Clay and more.
This is a special ticket event and is not included in the price of a Disney ticket. From 7 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. each night—after regular Magic Kingdom hours this special Christian event will feature live performances on several stages throughout the park. In addition, guests can experience some of the park’s most popular attractions during Night of Joy hours.
Guests of all musical tastes will be pleased to know that musically, the acts add up to a lineup that runs the spectrum from Rock, Hip Hop and R&B…to Pop, Adult Contemporary and Gospel, continuing a tradition that has been a hallmark of Night of Joy since 1983 when the event began.
The lineup is also riddled with musical accolades. Ten of the artists have amassed a combined 81 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards and six have earned The Recording Academy Grammy Awards. Twelve of the artists are nominated for a total of 33 Dove Awards this year. So if you happen to attend Night of Joy, you’ll be in for quite a musical treat.
Five artists are new to Night of Joy, bringing the event’s all-time talent list to 144 Christina music acts. The newbies include: 10th Avenue North, the 2009 New Artists of the eyar, group 1 Crew, Day of Fire, Sidewalk Prohpets, and Lecrae.
For those of you who don’t know what Night of Joy is, it’s an annual contemporary Christian music festival that takes place at Walt Disney World every year. The music festival began in 1983 and normally takes place in the first or second week of September. The event has been held at Magic Kingdom since it’s opening, except for two years when it was housed at Hollywood Studios. Night of Joy is one of two current Christian rock festivals held in Orlando each year. The other is Rock the Universe, which is held at, Universal Orlando Resort typically on the same nights as Night of Joy.
