Simon Cowell Pays for Disney Vacation for Cancer Teen
It’s one of the most visited places in the world and one of the most sought after vacations for locals and foreigners alike, so it’s no wonder people from all over the world put Disney World on their life’s to-do lists. And recently one little girl gained national attention when her dream trip to Disney was granted by a famous music mogul.
Former American Idol judge Simon Cowell reached into his own pocket to help a 12-year old girl fighting a rare form of cancer get to one of the happiest places on Earth, Disney World.
Megan Kershaw who has endured 18-months of grueling chemotherapy and has also had three-quarters of her liver removed after being diagnosed with a rare type of cancer in 2008-- completed a “wish board” which included meeting Simon Cowell and Girls Aloud as well as a dream trip to Disney World. After meeting Megan during a hospital visit and learning of her “wish board” Cowell offered to pay for her Disney trip.
Megan currently lives in Yorkshire, England and will be traveling to the U.S. for her 13th birthday next month. Cowell will not only be paying for Megan’s time in Disney World, he will be buying her a luxury flight, her hotel fees and a day swimming with the dolphins.
“This is wonderful. Megan is really excited, she can’t wait, she is counting down the days. It’s lovely to see. People have been so generous raising money and now Simon Cowell has been so generous too,” her mother Deborah said.
As for why American Idol judge and the X Factor star would want to fulfill Megan’s wishes, her mother had this to say, “I think he was touched by her story and Megan’s determination to beat cancer. It will be really emotional for me to see her finally getting to Disney World after all we have been through.”
Megan has already fulfilled her ambition to meet Girls Aloud and has also been to Downing Street, ridden in a limousine, met t he casts of musicals ‘Billy Elliot’ and ‘Mamma Mia’ and visited the set of British soap opera ‘Emmerdale’.
Her dream of visiting Disney World will finally come true in September.
Kind-hearted Cowell said, “Megan is a very brave girl. I’m glad I could help.”
Congratulations Megan on your upcoming trip to the most magical place on Earth. And thanks to Simon Cowell for making a young girl’s dream come true. We hope Megan gets a chance to visit all four Disney parks including Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom and while she’s at it a few water parks as well!
