Walt Disney World ® is switching gears and speeding things up at its speedway this month. Guest to the Walt Disney World ® Speedway will now have the opportunity to take a spin in some of the world’s finest and fastest automobiles on a new track specifically designed for cars of such speed.
The Exotic Driving Experience, located adjacent to the Magic Kingdom’s Ticket & Transportation Center, is in addition to the longstanding Richard Petty Driving Experience at the track. But other then the fact that both are racecar experiences, the similarities end there. Instead of using stock cars, guests to the Exotic Driving Experience can ride in pure comfort in one of many “supercars.” Each “supercar” comes with air conditioning and cushy leather seats, making for a more enjoyable ride. Plus, there are actually doors on these vehicles, so no need to jump through a window to get in!
Supercar options include the Porsche 997 S, Audi R8, Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, Lamborghini Superleggera and Ferrari 458 Italia.
The experience begins with a 40-minute driver and safety information class. Then it’s time to get behind the wheel of one of these luxurious vehicles and burn some rubber on the one-mile course.
Along side a driving instructor, who will sit in the passenger seat and help you along the course, guests to the Exotics Racing course will have the privilege to take six laps around the one-mile layout, which includes the tri-oval’s backstretch and a series of quick, challenging right and left-hand turns, known as “switch backs.”
To make the experience even more enjoyable, each vehicle is equipped with paddle shifting, eliminating the need for a clutch. For those who aren’t comfortable with the paddle shifts, each car comes equipped with computerized automatic modes that will handle shifting for you.
And to prove you’ve driven a Lamborghini, Ferrari or any of the many other exotic luxury vehicles, you’ll receive a Graduation Certificate and a lap-time sheet, showing your fastest time upon completion of the course.
If you want to preview any of the Walt Disney World ® Speedway racing experiences before fully committing, you can show up any time to watch the cars fly by. There is no cost for spectators. Two viewing areas are available to watch both sides of the track, including the interior portion.
The Exotic Driving Experience, which launched on Sunday, is just getting started. Future plans already include adding more exotic car models. But for now, the “supercar” offerings are enough to get car enthusiast’s and Disney ® guest’s engines revving.
