Inside the Ride Crush n Gusher at Typhoon Lagoon
With temperatures reaching in the upper 80 degrees in Orlando this past weekend, it is official: water park season is here! It’s officially time to splish and splash your way through the rest of spring and on into summer at some of Orlando’s best and “coolest” water parks. And there’s no better way to kick off water park season than with a ride down one of Walt Disney World’s ® most thrilling and most chilling rides, Crush ‘n’ gusher at Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.
The perfect ride for kids, teens and adults alike, Crush ‘n’ Gusher is a multi-ride, coaster-like raft ride where you’re taken on a gravity-defying adventure through hairpin turns, sudden drops and uphill climbs that’ll make you feel like you’re really white water rafting out in nature except it’s even more thrilling! And with 1350 gallons of water pumped out each minute during the ride you’ll understand why the ride is called Crush ‘n’ Gusher!
A little off the beaten path, literally, guests looking for the water ride should follow signs for the “Out of the Way Cay” path. After successfully locating the ride, guests will enter the queue that is made to look like an abandoned fruit exporting plant with rusted out and dilapidated remains throughout. The once land-locked packing plant known as Tropical Amity now sits on the shores of Hideaway Bay, a body of water left after a torrential storm. Among the remains of the facility are turbulent gushing water flumes that spiral out of control through twisted and crumbling wash spillways. It is these gushing water flumes that will take riders on a thrilling water coaster that’ll have you “gushing” by the end.
Riders will choose from the three different gushing water flumes, aka, slides: the Banana Blaster, which accommodates up to 2 riders per raft; the Coconut Crusher and Pineapple Plunger, which can fit three people on a raft at a time. The three different slides range from 410 to 420 feet long and each one propels guests through tunnels, spillways, twists and turns as you careen down towards Crush ‘n’ Gusher’s final plunge into the cool waters of Hideaway Bay.
Crush ‘n’ Gusher’s theme is in line with the legend that Typhoon Lagoon, an epic storm that hurled surfboards into palm trees and tossed boats around like they were toys. The typhoon that destroyed the area just so happened to create some of the most exhilarating water slides, rivers and rapids the whole family will love!
