New details about Avatar Land at Animal Kingdom
Last September Orlando Fun Tickets announced that Disney’s Animal Kingdom ® would be adding a new kind of “animal” to its park in 2015. And just like the rest of the creatures at Animal Kingdom ® this new addition will come from a far off exotic land where it too will be surrounded by things from its natural environment. The only difference is, this “animal” isn’t an animal at all, but rather an avatar from Oscar-winning director James Cameron’s award-winning film of the same name, “Avatar.”
That’s right, beginning sometime in 2015, guests can expect to see giant blue avatars roaming the area that will be called “Avatar Land” or so we think. Since its announcement over nine months ago, little has been revealed about Disney’s ® newest venture. Besides being a whopping $500 million project and the first of several lands themed to the movie that will be built at other Disney ® parks across the globe, we’ve spent the last several months waiting to hear word from Disney ® on what the area will include. Finally, we have something to report!
James Cameron recently revealed that in addition to the thriving green landscape of Pandora (if you haven’t seen the movie Pandora where the Avatars live), there will be a ride that simulates flight in the new "Avatar Land." This is the first specific detail of the project and not much else has been revealed about the ride but can we assume the “flight” will transport us to the world of Pandora to be able to witness the beauty of the Avatars and their lush land? We can only hope.
So far, “Avatar Land” is in the design phase with construction not expected to begin until 2013. When they do break ground, James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and Walt Disney Imagineers will work side-by-side to bring the Avatars and the world of Pandora to life at Animal Kingdom ®. What does that exactly that entail? We don’t know but if it’s at all like the rest of Disney ® it’s sure to be magical.
And with the announcement that two Avatar sequels are currently being planned, “Avatar Land” will no doubt grow as the franchise does, adding more characters and new stories to the area.
“Avatar Land” fits perfectly into Animal Kingdom’s theme of merging different worlds – both real and imaginary – together. Both the movie and the park are about uniting with nature and each other for harmony and peace throughout our world.
Stay tuned for more details on “Avatar Land” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom ®. In the meantime you can always enjoy the rest of Animal Kingdom’s ® animals and nature with discounted Walt Disney World ® tickets right here on Orlando Fun Tickets.
