Last year, Universal Orlando kicked off 2012 with their campaign “2012 Year to Be Here” in which they updated, upgraded and added new rides, shows and attractions including Universal Super Star Parade, Universal Cinematic Spectacular, Hollywood Drive in Mini Golf, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem and more throughout the parks. But just because 2012 is over doesn’t mean if 2013 isn’t still the “Year to Be Here” as the Orlando theme park brings to life some of the biggest movies and television shows and parties like it’s the end of the world! Here’s what’s happening at Universal Orlando in 2013:
Rumors galore swirled last year about several new attractions coming to Universal Orlando this year. And now it looks like guests just may see some of those rumors pan out. In the area that once told guests they were going to “need a bigger boat”, the JAWS Area, now stands construction walls where a new exciting attraction is being built. There aren’t many more details about the ride and we can only hope to get an official announcement this year. In 2010, Universal Orlando premiered the first look at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter during Super Bowl XLIV. Stay tuned to see if we can expect an announcement at Super Bowl XLVII.
And speaking of construction, new work is currently happening all around The Simpsons ride. Things are popping up Simpsonized like The Simpsons Midway games that opened last year; and now, the International Food and Film Festival restaurant closed and work is in progress. There is no official word yet on what will be included in the area, but there should be an announcement pretty soon because it looks like it could be completed this year.
Also opening in soon, summer 2013, is the long-awaited Transformers ride. Construction is already underway for the much-anticipated 3D ride that will put guests inside a Transfomer, riding with the Autobot Evac, a character created exclusively for the attraction. And just like in the movie, riders will fight to defend the earth against Megatron, Starscream and other evildoers as they stop them from getting possession of the Allspark. Guests will ride through real and virtual 3D environments projected on gigantic screens for a very realistic adventure.
Over at Islands of Adventures construction is underway near Hogsmeade and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Stay tuned for more details on this new attraction.
As you wait for all of these new rides, areas and attractions to come to life at Universal Orlando don’t miss the theme park’s annual Mardi Gras celebration with N’awlinis-style parties, mouth-watering cuisine, a dazzling parade and concerts by some of the biggest names in the music industry including Lifehouse, Steve Miller Band, Boys Like Girls, Trey Songz, Demi Lovato, Montgomery Gentry, Sean Kingston, Matchbox Twenty, Austin Mahone, Phillip Phillips, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Pitbull and more. Universal’s Mardi Gras runs on select nights from Feb. 9 through April 20.
As always, also expect more great music in the summer with the Sumer Concert Series and Rock the Universe. In fall, beware the creepy crawlers at night at the new Halloween Horror Nights 23. And as always, enjoy the holiday spirit of the Grinch at Grinchmas at the end of the year with the Macy’s Holiday Parade.
