Inside the Main Street Trolley and More in Magic Kingdom
It’s the quintessential small-town America. The second you step onto Main Street U.S.A. at Walt Disney World ®, you’ll feel like you’ve traveled back in time to the 1950’s where nobody locked their doors, the streets were filled with happy families and everybody knew each other’s name. Inspired by Walt Disney’s childhood and the film Lady and the Tramp, Main Street U.S.A. is filled with early 20th-century décor from the architecture of the buildings to the street performers down to the turn-of-the-century vehicles that take you from one side of Main Street U.S.A. to the other.
Not only does Main Street U.S.A. make you feel like you are in the perfect small town in America, but the area also lets you experience what it would have been like to live in Walt Disney’s childhood with its four vintage vehicles from the past. Take a nostalgic ride to Cinderella Castle or Town Square onboard one of these classic modes of transportation like the horse-drawn Main Street Trolley, which sometimes also brings the cast of the Main Street Trolley show to perform right by the entrance of Magic Kingdom. Other modes of transportation in Main Street include the omnibus, a gas-powered, open-air-2-story bus; the jitney, an early automobile without a roof; and the fire engine, a replica of the very first fire engines. And if you didn’t know it, you can ride these Main Street vehicles for transportation to Cinderella Castle.
As you enjoy your ride down Main Street U.S.A., be on the look out for a slew of 2-story and 3-story high Victorian-themed shops and restaurants that further take you back in time. And whether you decided to take a ride on a fire engine, jitney, autobus or horse drawn street car make sure you stop at a few of those shops and restaurants for the ultimate old-fashioned experience. Indulge in a gourmet cookie at Main Street Bakery or an ice cream sundae at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, get a monogrammed Mickey Mouse hat at The Chapeau, let the man in your life enjoy an old-fashioned shave or hair cut at Harmony Barber Shop and you can even enjoy a special show by several of Main Street U.S.A’s street performers like the barbershop quartet the Dapper Dans and reporter Scoop Sanderson, who gives pin talks in the Town Square Exposition Hall.
As you ride around in your vintage vehicle make sure you snap photos of Cinderella Castle that is visible directly down the middle of Main Street U.S.A. It sure is a romantic way to begin or end your day at Walt Disney World ®.
