LEGOLAND Florida To Make Announcement on New Themed Area

Last month LEGOLAND Florida hinted at a possible new expansion to the park when they tweeted this on their official Twitter page: Big announcement is coming soon Brick Fans!! Follow us to find out #cannotwait #LEGOLANDFlorida. In addition to that Dalton agency posted a photo of Mr. Adrian Jones, LEGOLAND Florida’s General Manager standing at the gates of the park with this caption, “Big news coming soon from our client @LEGOLANDFlorida #cannotwait.” But what the new area will be, we’re still not sure. LEGOLAND Florida has been mum on the details.

What we do know is that LEGOLAND Florida filed documents with the Southwest Florida Water Management District and the Polk County Office of Planning and Development for a new area of the park called “Pirate Shores,” but park officials have not confirmed that a pirate-themed attraction is coming.

Adrian Jones recently spoke at a Winter Haven Commission retreat giving nothing away but this, "The involvement of LEGO with LEGOLAND Florida is actually going to escalate during 2013, with a lot more marketing and cross-marketing activities linked to the plans (for expansion), and I know the press are here, so I'm not going to tell you anything more than that," Jones told Winter Haven commissioners. "Go and read the Swiftmud documents if you want to know."

The idea of a swashbuckling high seas adventure isn’t a new concept for LEGOLAND. LEGOLAND California has their own Pirate Shores, which features Splash Battles, a ride that lets kids “navigate pirate-infested waters” while shooting water cannons. The area also includes an interactive water play area called Swabbie’s Deck, and Captain Cranky’s Challenge, which will take riders on a sea-fearing adventure aboard a pirate ship that rocks back and forth and rotates in different directions.

Pirate Shores is expected to occupy roughly 1.6 acres of land and feature at least one new water ride. While Jones wouldn’t further discuss the details of the project he did say work was already under way.

In addition to the new Pirate Shores, Jones reported he is hoping to add a LEGOLAND Florida hotel, likely on the south side of the entrance, within five years.

Stay tuned for official details about LEGOLAND Florida’s new area, which is expected to arrive at the park by the end of this year as well as more details about a new LEGOLAND Florida hotel. In the meantime, don’t miss LEGOLAND Florida’s Water Park season opening this Saturday, March 9 with discounted LEGOLAND Florida tickets right here on Orlando Fun Tickets.
