The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival at Walt Disney World ® will be in full bloom this Wednesday as the annual festival returns to the park for its 20th year. And to celebrate the impressive milestone the festival will offer new topiaries, 12 marketplaces serving food, concerts and so much more. Here are the top tings to look for at the 20th Annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival:
Since it is a flower & garden festival, let’s start with this year’s must-see topiaries. No matter what Disney ® creates, the blooms are always incredible and this year is no different as the festival introduces new topiaries including Mike and Sully from “Monsters Inc.,” (The new film “Monsters University” will be opening June 21) and a larger-than-life Fab Five Disney character topiary. This topiary brings Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck and Daisy to life via flowers as they star in a celebratory cookout scene. The 14-foot-tall Goofy topiary will sit atop an anniversary cake while Donald and Daisy play badminton, Mickey is on the grill, Pluto steals a link of hot dogs and Minnie relaxes on a blanket of flowers.
The Land of Oz Garden
The Epcot International flower & Garden Festival will also pay tribute to Disney’s ® newest film, “Oz the Great and Powerful” with a new The Land of Oz Garden. Featuring scenes and props from the new film, which opens March 8, the garden is almost one third of an acre and is the biggest garden ever created for the festival.
The Land of Oz Garden will take guests on their own journey to Oz with a yellow brick road that they follow into the gardens; a giant interactive children’s play area that features carnival-style games; red-and-white circus-themed tents; photo opportunities; the “Oz Movie Garden” and even props similar to the ones in the new movie like Oz’s crashed hot-air balloon.
Walking through so many gorgeous gardens can work up quite an appetite, that’s why Epcot ® has added 12 new marketplaces with new food offerings including shrimp and grits; Zellwood corn; angel food cake with macerated Florida berries; watermelon salad with pickled red onions; baby arugula, feta cheese and balsamic reduction; sweet "frushi" made with fresh fruits and coconut rice and specialty drinks like Dole Whip with Spiced Rum, Hot Sun Tomato Wine from Florida Orange Groves Winery, Frozen Desert Violet Lemonade and Wild Berry Slush.
