Inside Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin Queue
Are you ready to go to infinity and beyond with Buzz Lightyear? Than you need to head to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Disney’s Magic Kingdom ®!
Located in Tomorrowland, this interactive ride let’s Buzz Lightyear fans finally get the chance to take on the evil Emperor Zurg with the space ranger! Thanks to laser pistols and a joystick, guests are able to transform into “Star Command” recruits and take out the villain that has plagued Buzz for years. But before you step foot inside your space vehicle and begin your mission, the intergalactic fun actually starts in the ride’s queue.
Awash in chartreuse, white and the bright blue hues of Buzz Lightyear, the queue instantly lets you know that you are entering Buzz’s area. As you meander through, you will be delighted to see giant sized toys, which have been scaled to make you feel like you have been shrunken down to toy size. The details include giant exposed Philips screw heads and an explanation of the interactive phase of the ride that resembles a toy’s instruction sheet but magnified so the sheet looks huge. There is also an Audio-Animatronic Buzz Lightyear figure that talks to guests. Make sure you get a good look at Buzz in the queue. It’s hard to tell but his body is the only thing Audio-Anamatronic on him. His face is actually a screen with a projection of computer animation. This feature allows for better lip-syncing and more expressive features, making him look just how you always thought he would if you were actually able to meet him in person.
The queue also includes a giant View-Master that provides an explanation of the mission you are about to except, which is to destroy Zurg’s secret weapons with your own blaster as well as a drawn description of your Space Cruiser on a Doodle-Pro. Giant toys and Buzz Lightyear figures aside, the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger spin is also filled with images of space, maps including the entire solar system showing where the Planets of the Galactic Alliance are as well as Planet Z. You can also check out how much power you have left at the Power Center where there are tubes and wires connecting to six batteries, all of which are painted on the walls. The little green aliens from Toy Story 2 & 3 also make an appearance on a painting as they send off Buzz Lightyear’s space ship into outer space.
And even when the ride is all over and you’ve defeated Zurg the queue fun continues with the chance for you to pose with the Evil Emperor behind bars!
