Orlando Nightlife

There are plenty of things to do in the Orlando theme parks that do not involve waiting in long lines or buying souvenirs. Our theme parks have something for everyone, including a great nightlife. From great restaurants to bars and nightclubs, there is something to do for the older crowds looking for a different kind of entertainment. Both Universal Studios Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World have spots for you to check out when you want to dance the night away, have a drink or just enjoy the view.

Over at Disney’s Boardwalk, you have two great entertainment options. For hardcore dancers out there, check out the Atlantic Dance Hall. It plays all kinds of music and hosts special guest DJ’s and bands. Guests have to be 21 and older to get in so you can dance to the best music from the 80’s, 90’s and today. Tuesday through Saturday nights, not only do you get to request your favorite songs, but their videos will also be played on the giant screens inside the Atlantic Dance Hall. If you like your entertainment with a little less dance, check out Jelly Rolls. This dueling piano bar is also for guests 21 and over since alcohol is served at the establishment. Guests can give the piano maestros their requests and see if they will be the one to stump them.

If you’re in Universal Studios Orlando Resort and you head over to CityWalk, you will also find some great places to hang out and enjoy the nightlife. First, there’s the award-winning Latin Quarter, where you can sample cuisine from 21 different Latin American nations while dining in a restaurant inspired by Aztec, Incan and Mayan architecture. Tuesday through Saturdays DJ’s play Latin and Reggaeton music from 6:30 to 10:00 pm. If you would rather enjoy a lounge vibe, head over to the Hard Rock for their Velvet Bar. This lounge, decorated with zebra print chairs, red carpets, purple accents and rock memorabilia also features outside veranda seating. As a special treat during Halloween Horror Nights, anyone with a Horror Nights ticket can come to the Velvet Bar and enjoy Happy Hour specials from 5pm-2am. There is plenty of Orlando nightlife to enjoy; these examples are just the beginning!

Universal Orlando's CityWalk Turns Ten

Universal CityWalk has a big milestone to celebrate this month, but that milestone will pass by rather quietly for the thousands of visitors who enjoy the shopping and entertainment center each year. Believe it or not, it’s been ten years since CityWalk opened in February 1999. Part of the expansion that transformed Universal Studios into Universal Orlando as we know it today, the 30-acre entertainment complex was built over the former Universal Studios parking lot and entrance after five years of planning and construction.

Today, CityWalk is still going strong as one of the most popular attractions in Orlando, with ample shopping, dining, and entertainment options for both tourists and locals. Everything a person might need to pass an afternoon or evening is there; from the musical shenanigans of Blue Man Group to the Jimmy Buffet-inspired margaritas and cuisine of Margaritaville to the latest apparel and souvenirs of Fossil and Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company. CityWalk even has a 20-theater AMC Theaters Cineplex playing the hottest movies in state-of-the-art projection and digital sound.

With the closing of Pleasure Island last year at Downtown Disney, CityWalk can also look forward to a strong future. While Walt Disney World rethinks its plans for the nightclub area, CityWalk is now the only nightclub district owned by a theme park and quite possibly the busiest nightclub area in Orlando. Currently, the nightclub offerings include the groove, Bob Marley – A Tribute to Freedom, Red Coconut Club, and the newest offering, CityWalk’s Rising Star, a Karaoke Club featuring a live band and backup performers.

However, CityWalk thrives on a winning combination that attracts not only club-goers, but also several different kinds of customers throughout the day. In the morning and afternoon, the shops and restaurants attract theme park visitors passing through on their way to Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure. During the evening, diners who may or may not be headed to the parks come to enjoy unique restaurants such as Emeril’s and Latin Quarter. And later on into the night, club-goers flood in to enjoy reggae grooves at Bob Marley and dance hits at the groove, among other things. CityWalk also attracts sports lovers during big game days to restaurants and bars such as NBA City and the NASCAR Sports Grille.

Going into 2009, CityWalk plans to add more dining options, including a Burger King Whopper Bar, Panda Express, and a Moe’s Southwest Grill. A new surf and skateboard equipment and fashion shop, Element by Billabong will also open. And guests will be able to enjoy the fruits of recent improvements like a new outdoor stage and several renovated shops.

However, the recipe will stay mostly the same for the entertainment district – after all, why fix what isn’t broken? If CityWalk stays on the successful path it’s on now, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this mega-entertainment complex celebrating its 20th anniversary ten years from now.

If you haven’t paid Universal CityWalk a visit lately, drop by to see what you’re missing next time you score your discount Universal Studios tickets at OrlandoFunTickets.com. A great place to hang out at night or to take a break while you’re visiting the parks, there’s lots of fun and many ways to have it at Universal CityWalk.

Gators Fans Unite at Universal Studios

When the University of Florida Gators football team won the BCS National Championship Game on January 8th, making them the 2009 National Champions, you can be sure that all of Florida united in celebration. And in fact, the party still hasn’t finished! Gator fans who are still reliving every moment of glory from last Thursday’s game can unite at Universal Studios Orlando, when the Orlando theme park hosts Gators National Championship Celebration Day on January 17th. Fans can enjoy special savings and entertainment throughout the day in honor of their favorite sports team.

This Saturday, Universal Orlando will become Gator country with unique entertainment specially catered to Gator fans. There’ll be appearances from special Gator guests Chris Leak, James Bates, Elijah Williams, Chris Doering, Errict Rhett, Jeff Chandler, Earnest Graham Jr., and Fred Weary. The Florida Gator Cheerleaders will also make a special appearance, as well as the Florida Gator mascots Albert and Alberta!

The fun starts at 10 am, when guests can enjoy free Gator Face Painting until 12 pm at Port of Entry, the gateway to the five areas at Islands of Adventure. Also at Port of Entry from 11 am to 12 pm, fans will be able to line up for a photograph with the Gator Cheerleaders and the team mascots. Then, at 12 pm, head over to Finnegan’s Bar and Grill for lunch while you watch the re-airing of that momentous national championship game. At 2 pm, stick around to watch the Florida Gators face off against the Arkansas Razorbacks in basketball.

Then at 3 pm, gather up your team spirit for a special Gator Celebration Parade featuring the special Gator guests, the cheerleaders, mascots, Universal Studios characters, and members of the University of Florida Pride of the Sunshine Marching Band. Right after the parade, head to Hollywood Boulevard at 3:30 for the Gator Celebration Pep Rally, and get ready to cheer your loudest.

Gators National Championship Celebration Day will wrap up at Universal's CityWalk from 4 to 7 pm, when fans will really let loose at the After Party at Pat O’Brien’s. Anyone who bleeds orange and blue will enjoy drink specials and 10% off total food purchases.

So come be a part of the excitement, and don’t forget to wear your orange and blue this Saturday at Universal Studios, when the park will be swarming with Gators. Be a smart Gator and score discount Universal Studios tickets at OrlandoFunTickets.com, and you’ll really be able to make the most of Gator celebration weekend.

Universal CityWalk Reveals New Karaoke Club

Ok, so you got your Universal tickets and had a blast at Universal Studios Orlando and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Now you’re looking for a little nighttime action. Well, look no further than Universal CityWalk, the hot-hot-hot entertainment complex that connects both of the theme parks at the Universal Orlando Resort.

Universal CityWalk is one of the most happening places when it comes to Orlando night life, and you don’t even need a Universal ticket to get in. Last March, a star was born on the CityWalk skyline with the opening of CityWalk’s Rising Star, a karaoke club that is nothing like your karaoke outings at the sports bar back home.

Universal CityWalk karaoke club presents “karaoke with a twist”
Universal CityWalk’s newest nightclub, CityWalk’s Rising Star, is unlike any karaoke bar you have been to in the past. At CityWalk’s Rising Star, you don’t just sing some songs on a stage. CityWalk’s Rising Star transforms you into the star you have always wanted to be.

Karaoke singers at CityWalk’s Rising Star really get the chance to “shimmer, shine, and show off” because they don’t just mount the stage and perform lyrics off a TV screen. Before you step in front of the audience at CityWalk’s Rising Star, you are formally introduced by a real live emcee! And the star treatment doesn’t end there. At CityWalk’s Rising Star, your karaoke performance is enhanced by a full-live band and back-up singers to elevate your star power.

Universal CityWalk’s Rising Star turns karaoke into a live concert
You won’t find a broken down computer pumping out stale old songs on some souped-up home-stereo speakers at CityWalk’s Rising Star. No. CityWalk’s Rising Star has a brand new, state-of-the-art sound system for maximum amplification of your karaoke crooning. Throughout the club, flat panel monitors showcase your talent to audience members, who can sing along with the song lyrics on the screen too.

There’s nothing better after a day at the Universal Orlando Resort than being the guest of honor at your own live music extravaganza. Universal CityWalk’s Rising Star is just the place to wind down the night after using your Universal tickets all day.

CityWalk’s Rising Star is open nightly from 8 p.m.-2 a.m., and you must be over 21 years old every night except Thursday, when you have to be at least 18. There is a cover charge of $7 for admission, no charge to sing, and a Universal ticket is not required.

Forrest Gump Serves Southern Comfort Food at Universal Orlandos CityWalk

Universal Citywalk has several dining options theres the Latin Quarter with spicy food and music to match Jimmy Buffets laid back and relaxed Margariteville can help you unwind. But, if you're in the mood for seafood and Oscar winning movies, you can visit the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Set in the theme of a 1960's shrimp boat, peppered with tons of movie memorabilia, you'll feel as though you've stepped right onto the set.

In the words of Benjamin Buford Blue himself "Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it." And that's exactly what they do in Universal Orlando Citywalk's tribute to this simple shrimpin' man. Their menu is full of seafood favorites, as well plenty of choices with the restaurants marquee ingredient. You can start with one of their mouthwatering appetizers like the Shakin' Shrimp Cocktail (chilled, deveined shrimp, served with mixed veggies and tortilla chips) Bubba's Far Out Dip (Spinach, roasted red peppers, artichokes and Monterey jack cheese) or the Shrimpers Net Catch (Shrimp steamed in beer served with your choice of sauce). For the main course, they have great entrees like Shrimp New Orleans (a spicy recipe straight from the French Quarter with tons of shrimp sautéed in butter, garlic and spices), Bourbon Mahi Mahi, a Forrest Favorite, (charbroiled Cajun Mahi Mahi with bourbon sauce and shrimp served over mashed potatoes) or the Dixie Style Baby Back Ribs roasted slowly and slathered right on the grill with barbeque sauce). Finally, you can cap off dinner with one of their massive desserts such as classic Key Lime Pie, scrumptious Apple Cobbler or a heavenly Chocolate Cookie Sundae. You can wash it all down with a tasty smoothie like a Run Forrest Run, (a blend of various fruit juices and non-fat yogurt.) or the Bayou Surprise specialty drink (Skyy Vodka, triple sec and a particular blend of tropical juices) as well as many other beverages.

However, The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is not just about the food. It's about the whole dining atmosphere. The servers are quick and efficient and to make sure you are well taken care of, The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has a fun and interactive method. If your drink is getting low or you just want more shrimp simply put up the sign, located on every table that says "Stop Forrest Stop" and the server will be with you faster than an Alabama kick returner. When everything is great and you're just enjoying the movie as it plays conveniently through out the restaurant, put up the "Run Forrest Run" sign. Fast service isn't all the servers specialize in as, they are all very knowledgeable about the famous film. Don't surprised if they lead your whole table in a round of Forrest Gump trivia while your entree is cooking. So, if after you've had a full day of enraging The Hulk, annihilating aliens on Men Black or singing along with Beetlejuice and are hungry for more movie madness, pop into The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. for a unique experience that combines great food with classic movie nostalgia that you can only find at the Universal Orlando Resort!
