National Art Show in Downtown Disney
Sometimes the Orlando theme parks can really tire you out despite all the fun you can have! But that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything else for you to do. Disney theme parks are great, but there are some other wonderful things you can do in the Orlando area. This weekend Downtown Disney will be hosting the Festival of the Masters, a nationally recognized art festival hosted every year in the shopping, dining and entertainment complex. For 34 years, 150 award-winning artists from around the world come to compete in this awesome festival that features activities for adults and kids. Over by Disney Quest, artists will be giving the kiddies free lessons on how to draw their favorite Disney characters. They will also be creating a masterpiece of their own on the sidewalks of Downtown Disney with colored chalk, encouraging the little ones to join in. The nearby Cirque Du Soleil arena, which features the show La Nouba, will also have its own stars and performers coming out to greet the kids. DJ’s will be on hand to play music in the afternoons as people stroll about looking at all of the great artists and vendors. Joe Kaminski, the man that has won the Festival of the Masters three times in a row, will be at the art show again this weekend showing off his nature-inspired pieces. Since the festival marks the beginning of the Disney holiday shopping season, we’re sure all of the great shops in Downtown Disney will be open for you to explore, but don’t forget to support the artists as well! The Festival of the Masters is a great way to enjoy the wonderful weather Orlando has during this time of the year while still being part of the Disney environment offered at Downtown Disney. They have been in a big renovation phase and have opened up new restaurants and stores---and they continue to do so! So make sure you stop by this festival and participate in the great activities as you check out the wonderful art. After all, it’s one of the most recognized festivals in the nation! La Nouba - October Fun for Everyone
We have been blogging a lot about the great Halloween activities going on in the Orlando theme parks. Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party, Halloween Horror Nights, Howl-O-Scream and even Gatorland’s Gator Wood are all wonderful events you can go to for some scary fun. But there are a lot of people that don’t celebrate Halloween that still travel to Orlando during the beautiful fall months. So what are they to do? If you want high-quality entertainment but don’t want your personal beliefs offended because of certain Halloween imagery, why not enjoy the costumes, music and imagery of Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba? La Nouba is Orlando’s permanent Cirque du Soleil show located in Downtown Disney’s West Side. The beautiful theatre was built specifically for this show that brings in thousands of Cirque du Soleil fans a year. La Nouba, which means “to party, to live it up,” features 65 artists from 15 different countries performing in beautiful acrobatic performances and circus-themed stunts. Like all Cirque du Soleil shows, amazing live singers back up a soundtrack that varies in musical genre. For La Nouba, jazz, hip-hop, opera and Klezmer music all fuse together for an amazing backdrop for the show which is set to look like a dream. La Nouba features signature characters like every Cirque show. The Green Bird is a beautiful woman dressed in a bird costume that longs to fly with the acrobats of Cirque du Soleil. The Pierot Clown and the Lost Ballerina provide the romantic aspects of the show while Les Cons, the “silly people” dressed all in white, interact with the audience and serve as the liaison between the Cirque du Soleil show and the audience. You will be treated to amazing high-wire acts, flying trapeze work and the silk ballet, where beautiful dancers fly across the stage hanging on from long red curtains of shimmering silk. The Cirque show runs Tuesday through Saturday at 6pm and 9pm. They are a great way to enjoy Orlando attractions during the Halloween months without impeding on any personal beliefs. So don’t hold back and come check out a Cirque du Soleil show! Labels: discount cirque du soleil tickets, Disney Attractions, Downtown Disney, la nouba
Waterfront Eatery Opens at Downtown Disney
Downtown Disney has seen a lot of changes throughout the past year. There was the closing of the Pleasure Island nightclubs, sadly, along with the closure of the Virgin Megastore. However, not all of the changes have been bad – the Disney entertainment district added Aerophile, a new balloon flight experience, new stores, and new restaurants. Among those eateries, in fact is a new waterfront eatery that’s making its debut this month – Paradiso 37. Named after the 37 countries that make up North, South, and Central America, Paradiso 37 opened quietly last Friday, June 5. Located on the waterfront of Pleasure Island, the high-energy E-Brands restaurant serves up unique cuisine inspired by the “Street Foods of the Americas” for lunch and dinner. The restaurant also features an international wine bar and a tequila tower bar with 37 kinds of tequila, which are used in the restaurant’s selection of signature frozen margaritas. On the wide and varied menu at Paradiso 37 is a list of appetizers or “sharables,” subs and sandwiches, salads, and “street” platters. Among them are south-of-the-border tastes such as burritos, enchiladas, and tacos, in addition to more customary dishes such as New York Strip Steak, Cheeseburger, and North American Sliders. One of the most popular offerings is the BBQ Pork Platter, which is slow roasted with sweet chipode BBQ sauce and served with cilantro rice and black beans. The restaurant features a separate menu for children, with can’t-go-wrong eats like mini-cheeseburgers, chicken fingers, and a triple stack PB & J. And for dessert, a variety of North, South, and Central American “Street Sweets” is available, such as churros, sopapillas, and ice cream sundaes served in half a coconut. With one side facing the boat deck, Paradiso 37 offers a particularly nice waterside dining area. The outside of the building almost resembles a boathouse with horizontal wood paneling. Inside, however, the restaurant is very colorful and features plush, multi-colored booths, wood tables and accents, and elaborate tequila-themed lighting fixtures. And an open kitchen provides something fun to watch while diners wait for their meal to arrive. At nighttime, Paradiso 37 turns into a nightlife paradise with live entertainment. The usually lively and comfortable atmosphere gets even more fiery and fun, and on Friday evenings, an acoustic musician plays everything from 80s hits to soulful country songs. Paradiso 37 opens at 11 am and stays open late into the evenings. We especially recommend it for a satisfying dinner after a long day at Walt Disney World or a bit of nightlife fun. Plan on making it a part of your vacation for a unique dining experience – and while you’re planning, be sure to check out the discount Walt Disney World tickets available on OrlandoFunTickets.com. Water Park Fun & More: DisneyQuest
As summertime brings warm, sunny days and beautiful, breezy nights to Orlando, there is no better time to explore some of the different offerings of Walt Disney World. And the best way to take advantage of said offerings is through Disney’s Water Park Fun & More ticket option, which is an all-in-one access pass to Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, Disney’s Wide World of Sports, Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, and DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting some of these great Disney spots and why the Water Park Fun & More ticket option is such a steal. And this week, we’re journeying into DisneyQuest. Imagine the fun of a Disney theme park squeezed into five stories of interactive, high-tech fun, and you’ve got DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park. A one-of-a-kind gaming experience at Downtown Disney, DisneyQuest is like your favorite arcade pushed into overdrive and multiplied by several stories. Virtual reality, 3D encounters, and other games that push the limit of your imagination can be found here, and many of them revolve around some of your favorite Disney characters and stories. For example, you can sail the seven seas with the Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for Buccaneer Gold attraction, which lets you steer your very own pirate ship and steal gold from other pirate ships! Or, fly through the alleys and street of Agrabah on Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride, where you’ll search for the magic lamp and try to save the Genie. Games and attractions at DisneyQuest are divided into four zones: the Explore Zone, a virtual Adventureland; the Score Zone, for superhero quests; the Create Zone, for artistic endeavors; and the Replay Zone, for nostalgic fun. There’s something for guests of all ages at DisneyQuest, from the youngest to the oldest of Disney fun lovers. Younger tikes will likely enjoy the Create Zone, where they can learn from Disney animators at the Animation Academy and build their own toy with Toy Story’s Sid. And older folks will hearken back to the days of Asteroids with Buzz Lightyear’s Astroblaster, where they’ll fend off asteroids in a futuristic bumper car. One of the coolest experiences at DisneyQuest just might be CyberSpace Mountain, which allows you to design your very own roller coaster on a computer with help from Bill Nye the Science Guy. You can make your coaster as scary, tame, or crazy as you want – but beware, because after you’re done, you’ll be the first test subject! Guests will be able to hop into a simulator and ride their creation in full 360 degree motion. DisneyQuest even offers a traditional arcade area for video game purists with pinball and other classics. And coming soon to the indoor theme park will be everyone’s favorite video game experience, Guitar Hero. Perfect for a rainy day or for some Disney fun when you’ve gotten too late of a start to hit one of the main theme parks, DisneyQuest also features several delicious eateries and souvenir shops inside, eliminating the need to go anywhere else. Now – you could get admission to DisneyQuest separately, but its five stories of interactive fun are included when you purchase the Water Park Fun & More option with your Walt Disney World tickets from OrlandoFunTickets.com. With everything DisneyQuest offers, along with the magic of Disney’s water parks and other attractions, we can’t think of a better Disney deal out there! Stay tuned to our blog in the coming weeks, as we continue to explore the Water Park Fun & More option and all its great admissions. Re-Imagineering Downtown Disney: New Additions in 2009
It started with the closing of Pleasure Island last year; then, T-Rex: A Prehistoric Family Adventure, A Place to Eat, Shop, Explore and Discover opened, creating a whole new standard for Disney dining. With all these changes, visitors might be wondering what’s going on at Downtown Disney, Walt Disney World Resort’s beloved shopping, dining and entertainment hub. Well, this famous Disney attraction that’s a popular favorite among tourists is getting a little bit of a makeover, with new restaurants and all-new attraction set to draw crowds later this year. Since Downtown Disney has always been a free place for visitors to walk, shop, and spend a leisurely afternoon, guests will be surprised to learn that in the spring, Downtown Disney will get its very own iconic attraction in the form of a giant tethered balloon. Not much is known about this aerial ride that, for now, is simply known as Aerophile. But the word from Disney is that it will take guests 300 feet into the air from the waterfront. With a volume of 210,000 cubic feet of lighter-than-air gas, the 72-foot-diameter balloon will lift up to 30 guests at a time on a six-minute trip by day or night, giving them an unparalleled, 360-degree view of up to 10 miles. Adding to the fun will be a new Downtown Disney restaurant, a high-energy eatery and bar from E-Brands Restaurant Group. There’s no official word on the name yet, but we can expect to see an international wine bar, a tequila bar with more than 50 kinds of tequila, and 10 signature frozen margaritas. This new dining spot will also be located on the waterfront and will be open daily until late into the evening with nightly entertainment. The new additions will certainly fill help to fill a bit of a hole at Downtown Disney, which has developed ever since Pleasure Island closed back in late September, after close to 20 years in operation. Reportedly, Disney was responding to guest feedback asking for more family-friendly experiences. Pleasure Island featured nightclubs like the Adventurer’s Club, Comedy Warehouse 8 Traxx, Motion, Mannequins, and BET Sound Stage. While Disney reinvents Pleasure Island with a new slew of dining, shopping, and other unique features, Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant, Fuego by Sosa Cigars, Curl by Sammy Duval, and Orlando Harley-Davidson will still be open to visitors. So far, Downtown Disney’s newest additions include Disney’s new Design-A-Tee store presented by Hanes, which we recently reported on, and T-Rex: A Prehistoric Family Adventure. T-Rex combines dining with entertainment, allowing kids to learn and play in an interactive prehistoric environment built around water, fire, ice. Both places are part of a recent trend in Disney stores, restaurants, and attractions to provide interactive entertainment, where the guest can be an integral part of the fun. We’ll keep you posted on all the latest developments at one of Walt Disney World’s most beloved spots, Downtown Disney. And in the meantime, don’t forget to check out all the fun at other Disney theme parks like Magic Kingdom and Epcot – you can find discount Disney tickets right here at OrlandoFunTickets.com. Design Your Own Tee at Downtown Disney
One of our favorite places in Walt Disney World to eat, shop, and spend a leisurely afternoon, Downtown Disney is like a mega metropolis of fun. Filled with restaurants, unique shops, and live entertainment, this attraction draws hundreds of visitors every day. And soon, Downtown Disney is about to get even better with a new high-tech store that will allow guests to customize their clothing. In a grand opening ceremony on January 9th, Walt Disney World launched balloons, confetti cannons, and unveiled a giant T-shirt cake in celebration of its newest store, Disney’s Design-A-Tee Presented by Hanes. The first of its kind, this interactive T-shirt design and printing store located at the Downtown Disney Marketplace will enable guests to create unique vacation tee shirts with limitless design capabilities. Using one of eight state-of-the-art kiosks with touch-screens, guests will be able to customize a long-sleeve or short-sleeve T-shirt in multiple colors by choosing from more than 300 art selections of Disney animation and movie characters. Make a green Tinkerbell shirt or a red Pirates of the Caribbean tee – the design is up to you! Guests can also add a unique message or logo of up to four lines to their tee using a wide selection of type fonts and colors. If you can’t think of any particular message you want your tee to convey, previously programmed messages are also available to choose from. Disney’s Design-A-Tee is the latest product of the collaboration between Walt Disney World and Hanes Brands, Inc. In 2007, the clothing maker signed a deal to become the official T-shirt supplier at Disney World. Once guests have designed their unique tee, the design is electronically sent to the store’s printing machine. Shirts at Disney’s Design-A-Tee are printed on site and take about 15 minutes to make, although the wait may be longer if the store is busy. Guests can watch the creation of their tee via video screens while they wait, or they can opt to pick them up later or have them delivered. You can make one T-shirt just for you, or produce multiples of the same design to share with friends, family, or perhaps a club or team. Prices range from about $20 to $30. Tee-lovers can find the Design-A-Tee shop next to the Art of Disney store at the east end of Downtown Disney. Downtown Disney is home to the Downtown Disney Marketplace, featuring the largest Disney character store in the world, and Downtown Disney West Side, featuring top-notch restaurants, theaters, shows, and one-of-a-kind amusement, including Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba. Be sure to plan a stop here during your next Disney vacation, and don’t forget your discount Disney tickets at OrlandoFunTickets.com. To get your photographs, follow the red-and-green reindeer hoofprints from Santa’s location to Guest Relations. The Walt Disney World Guide for Guests with Disabilities
Disney World can be the most magical, inspiring and wonderful place on earth! It can also be a daunting location to maneuver in a wheelchair, even in the best of times. For those guests who have limited mobility issues or use a wheelchair, visiting the Disney theme parks can be made easier with some planning and newly designed innovations that make entering an attraction much more simple. “Easy” is the best word to describe visiting the new ride, “Toy Story Mania,” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Living and working in an electric wheelchair is a breeze for my 30-something friend, Michelle, however not all attractions at theme parks are accessible. This however was NOT the case here! As we entered the que, an enthusiastic Cast Member greeted us. We were instructed to continue in our line until we came to a gate, which would allow Michelle, and my self, to load into the car for the ride. The new ride has a separate area to the side of the track where, once loaded onto, the special car will rotate into the ride rotation without any interruption to the ride. Other visitors don’t have to wait while wheelchair guests get onto the ride at this location. Without much time or effort, we were off and ready to go! For us, the ride was a blast! The nostalgic touches and the tie-ins to the movie, by Pixar, were well done and Michelle was delighted that she got to ride the ride! Many guests, such as Michelle, are unable to transfer onto rides. Rides, such as "Toy Story Mania," allow those in wheelchairs to park their wheelchair on the ride, not having to be transferred, so that they also can see and experience the Disney Magic, which they would otherwise miss. Many rides such as “Buzz Lightyear” and “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, and “The Seas With Nemo and Friends” and “Ellen’s Energy Adventure” at Disney's Epcot, all have direct-loading onto a car available where guests can ride an attraction, just by moving their wheelchair or ECV into the allotted space in the car. Wheelchairs and ECV (Electric Convenience Vehicles) are available for rent at a variety of locations throughout Disney Theme Parks, Disney Water Parks, and Downtown Disney. Wheelchairs are also available for rent in Disney Resort locations, but ECV’s are not. Quantities are limited and subject to availability. Assistive Listening Receivers, which amplify the audio throughout the parks, may be used at several locations. Handheld Captioning is available at many attractions, as well. Guests can visit Guest Relations to obtain these devices. When entering any of the Theme parks, ask for the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities. These guide books give a description of all of the rides that are available to those with limited mobility. The maps show which attractions can accommodate a wheelchair or ECV and which attractions the guest would need to transfer into a seat in order to ride the attraction. Some rides, will have you enter where other riders are exiting. Just ask the nearest Cast Member for instructions. If you can transfer, most locations have only a few steps, thus if you can take a few steps, don’t miss out just because you have to transfer. In the World of Disney, dreams come true and magic happens all around us. Thanks to Marilyn Emrick, one of our Customer Service Representatives, for this informative blog piece!Labels: Disney Hollywood Studios, Downtown Disney, EPCOT attractions, Magic Kingdom Attractions, wheelchairs at Disney
