Around the World on a Segway

Want to ride a Segway but can not afford the price tag? EPCOT theme park has announced a fantastic tour that will give you backstage access to the World Showcase and other great EPCOT pavilions. There are various tour times throughout the morning, so your tour time will depend on the reservation you make. Remember, the price of the tour is not included in your theme park admission, so make sure you purchase your discount EPCOT tickets with OrlandoFunTickets.com to save some cash before booking the tour.

Every “Around the World on a Segway” tour begins with a 45 minute training session. This session is meant to teach riders the operation of the Segway vehicle as well as the necessary safety measures needed to keep riders from getting hurt. The training is provided by EPCOT cast members who ride along with your group to make sure everyone stays safe and to provide great insight and tidbits on the EPCOT theme park throughout the experience.

After your training session, you will leave Future World and head off to the World Showcase on your Segway. Your journey will take you through all of the pavilions: France, Italy, Mexico, Germany, Japan, China, Morocco, Norway, Canada, USA and the UK. Your Disney cast member tour guide will let you know about the parks history as you watch other cast members prepare the World Showcase for the day. Since the World Showcase doesn’t open until 10 am, the earlier you take your tour the better. These early hours will give you clear views of all of the pavilions without the hordes of tourists snapping pictures or waiting in line for rides. You will get to see, in detail, the amount of work put into the facades of the buildings and learn how Disney keeps authenticity in mind when replicating these foreign landmarks.

The Segway tours run for two hours, four times a day at EPCOT. The minimum age for the tour is 16 years old, and if you are under 18 a parent or legal guardian must sign the waiver for you. Also, because of the vehicle, there is a weight limit of under 250 lbs. You are standing on the Segway for long periods of time as you motor around EPCOT, so make sure you are in good health before signing up for the tour. This is a great addition to the EPCOT theme park and sure to be a hit with guests to the Walt Disney World Resort.

Remembering Walter Cronkite

This weekend America lost one of the most legendary journalists in our history. Walter Cronkite, at the age of 92, passed away in his New York home this past Friday night. Both print and media news have been covering the death and remembering the enormous contribution he made to the journalism world. Many of today’s news anchors and reporters called into shows on CNN and MSNBC over the weekend to recount how Cronkite inspired them to join the exciting, yet rocky world of journalism.

Walter Cronkite led America through the challenges the nation faced from World War 2 onward. He began his career as a young man, covering America’s participation in the war and even the Nuremburg Trials. He was there during the Vietnam War and the chaos that erupted because of it back home. He wiped away tears from underneath his thick-rimmed glasses as he announced to the country that John F. Kennedy had been assassinated, and he held back child-like joy as Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the surface of the moon during the Apollo 11 mission 40 years ago. Because of his character and his integrity, Cronkite was nicknamed “the most trusted man in America.”

But Cronkite also lent his talents to other media outlets. Along with hosting special news reports and documentaries, “Uncle Walter” leant his image and his voice to various Walt Disney projects and a classic ride in the Disney lineup: Spaceship Earth. It makes sense that Cronkite would lend his distinct voice to the educational ride. As a man which America welcomed into their living rooms every night to inform them on the country’s on goings, Cronkite was a fitting choice to narrate the progress of communication throughout the history of civilization on EPCOT’s signature ride.

From 1986 to 1994, it was Cronkite’s voice that one would hear as they began their spiraling ascent through history and into the future on Spaceship Earth. He was the only American to narrate the ride, as he was then replaced by Brits Jeremy Irons (Lion King) and Dame Judy Dench. Cronkite continued his work at EPCOT by narrating the special Holiday Illuminations fireworks show that ran from 1994-1999.

Over at Disney Hollywood Studios, which was then known as Disney MGM Studios, he worked with Robin Williams on the video “Back to Neverland," a feature that would play to visitors of the Backlot Tour. Together, Williams and Cronkite demonstrated how Disney animators worked hard to bring classic stories to life through the animation process. He was as much a part of the Disney family as he was part of the American news world.

OrlandoFunTickets.com and Disney fans across the globe mourn the loss of this news legend and Disney contributor. As Walter Cronkite would say, “that’s the way it is.”

The Best Fireworks Spots in Walt Disney World

At the end of the day when your feet can not take anymore walking and your head can no longer support your Mickey ears, the Walt Disney World theme parks offer the best ending to your day with their fantastic fireworks shows. Out of the four Walt Disney World theme parks in Orlando, EPCOT and the Magic Kingdom fireworks are the best around.

Unfortunately, many tourists visiting the parks know this, so the usual spots can get extremely crowded. Even though you have to look up, not ahead, to see the massive display of fireworks, the last thing anyone would want is to be squished between the spectators as the dazzling colors light up the sky. So, OrlandoFunTickets.com is here to provide you with a few secret spots to check out the fireworks.

The Magic Kingdom is now running their Wishes Nighttime Spectacular. It’s one of Disney’s brightest and best displays yet. We recommend staying as late as possible in the theme park to catch the last show of the night. Many folks are usually on their way out of the park and try to catch the show from the Main Street USA area of the Magic Kingdom. Your best bet is to do the opposite. Head to Fantasyland right by the Mad Tea Party teacups ride and have a seat on the stone barrier surrounding the landscaping near the ride. The view of the sky is usually clear and free of any large trees or buildings to block your view. If you’re a photographer there will be plenty of space to set up your tripod and experiment with nighttime photography to get the best shots around.

If you’re over at the EPCOT theme park, you’ll be treated to the IllumiNations fireworks show on the big lake in the World Showcase. Illuminations not only features fireworks but a lovely laser light show that goes with the multi-cultural theme and promotion of unity the World Showcase at EPCOT endorses. The Rose & Crown Pub in the United Kingdom pavilion is a great spot to check out the show. There is an outdoor dining area perfect for viewing IllumiNations. Walk up to the order window outside and order yourself the great fish and chips before taking a seat for a great view.

If you’re looking to watch the fireworks from a hotel, the beach at the Polynesian Resort is a great spot to check out both of the park’s fireworks shows. The location can get a bit crowded but nowhere near the level of the parks. If you’re hungry, then the California Grill at the Contemporary also offers a fantastic view of the show as you dine.

Whichever you choose to do, make sure you get to your spot an hour early to pick out your viewing spot. As always, check out OrlandoFunTickets.com for the best offers on Disney tickets around. The best fireworks in Orlando are only a click away.

Disney Offers New Services for Disabled Guests

Walt Disney World has always taken strides to make its fun available to disabled guests, whether it is through special maps at guest services, sign language interpreters at live shows, wheelchair accommodations, etc. And now, visually impaired guests can take advantage of yet another service designed to help them experience Disney magic in all its glory.

Disney has unveiled “audio description,” a new service designed to provide blind vacationers with descriptions of scenes as they unfold through various attractions such as Epcot’s Spaceship Earth and Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion. The service focuses on actions, settings, or scene changes within attractions and works with the existing attraction’s audio.

“We want to make our rich stories available to everyone,” said Greg Hale, vice president of worldwide safety and accessibility for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Audio description works by way of a handheld wireless device, which relies on a series of remote, infrared sensors to determine a guest’s location and dispense the appropriate narration. A guest hears the clear, even-toned descriptions through a single earpiece, which leaves the other ear free to gauge one’s surroundings.

The handheld device, which is built to withstand elements like rain, diet coke, and accidental droppings to the ground, also features amplified sound and hand-held captions for guests who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Those services have been available at the park since 2005, but it took Disney engineers much longer to perfect audio description, particularly to make sure the narrations didn’t interrupt an attraction’s primary narration.

The audio description service has been available for about two weeks, but Disney says it’s working on expanding it to include descriptions of outdoor areas, which is especially pertinent given the International Flower & Garden Festival currently underway at Epcot. Like Braille maps or the Guidemap for Guests with Disabilities, the audio description device is available at Guest Services at each of the four theme parks. There’s no cost for the handheld or the earpiece, but there is a refundable $100 daily deposit.

Audio description is currently available at 11 locations in Epcot, 11 locations in Magic Kingdom, 5 locations in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and 3 locations in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. So if you’re a visually impaired guest, be sure to check it out upon your next visit for extra help in enjoying your favorite attractions at Walt Disney World. And remember to save extra by getting your Walt Disney World tickets at OrlandoFunTickets.com.

The Seas with Nemo and Friends Wins AZA Accreditation

Though Animal Kingdom is generally known as the best place to see and interact with creatures of different shapes and sizes in Walt Disney World, it is not the only park where you can get acquainted with nature. Over at Epcot, one of the largest man-made ocean environments in the world exists with a variety of undersea life to rival even SeaWorld. The Seas with Nemo & Friends is not only an entertaining pavilion in Epcot, but it’s also a great place to learn about aquatic animals. And now, The Seas has been granted accreditation by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), officially making it a top animal institution.

“The Seas has been awarded AZA accreditation because of its high standards in every aspect of its operations,” said AZA President and CEO Jim Maddy. “Orlando should be proud to have one of the top facilities in North America as a valuable community asset and economic engine.”
So what does getting accredited mean? In order to pass the AZA’s test, The Seas had to undergo a thorough investigation to ensure it has and will continue to meet stringent standards of animal care, veterinary programs, conservation, education, and safety. AZA requires zoos and aquariums to complete this process in order to be members of the Association, and they have to undergo it again every five years.

The Seas with Nemo & Friends, located in Future World, features a 5.7 million gallon saltwater tank named Caribbean Coral Reef, which is home to 6,000 inhabitants representing over 60 species – including sea turtles, angelfish, dolphins, rays, sharks, and even manatees. Guests can immerse themselves in undersea life on a circular platform in the middle of the aquarium and browse smaller exhibits throughout the aquarium where Nemo and his friends share knowledge about the underwater world. There’s even a fun activity area called Bruce’s SharkWorld where younger guests can learn about some fearsome and silent predators of the deep.

In addition to the Sea Base and Caribbean Coral Reef aquarium, The Seas with Nemo & Friends includes Turtle Talk with Crush, which gives guests an opportunity to chat about undersea life with one of the stars of Finding Nemo. Children can pose questions about the marine world to a digital Crush, who responds on the fly.

While entertaining guests and educating them, The Seas with Nemo & Friends is dedicated to inspiring conservation of coral reefs, marine mammals, and fish. In fact, The Seas partners with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and other zoos and conservation groups in the Manatee Rehabilitation Partnership. The Seas is a designated rehab site for rescued manatees and sea turtles until they are well enough to be returned to their habitats.

“Every visit you make to The Seas supports wildlife conservation.” Maddy stated. “It’s an opportunity for families to get together and connect with conservation.”

Certainly, no visit to Epcot is complete without visiting The Seas with Nemo & Friends, and for animal lovers, it’s definitely a must-stop at Walt Disney World. So make an appointment with Crush, Nemo, and other stars of the ocean by getting your Walt Disney World tickets from OrlandoFunTickets.com, and get ready to embark on a fun and educational undersea adventure.

Great Animatronics Come in Small Packages at Disney

Normally, a rat would be a very unwelcome creature inside a restaurant and cause to call the Health Department. But at Les Chefs de France restaurant at Disney's Epcot, one special rat isn't just a welcome guest, he’s actually part of the restaurant’s crew. The star of the Academy Award-winning Disney Pixar film Ratatouille, Remy is the newest Audio-Animatronics character created by Walt Disney World Imagineers, and he’s part of a whole new guest experience at Les Chefs de France called “Bon Appétit from Chef Remy.”

Inside the France pavilion eatery, a Maitre d’ greets diners six days a week, four times a day, with a rolling food cart. That cart carries a silver domed cheese platter that the Maitre d’ dramatically uncovers to reveal the six-inch-tall Remy, complete with silky soft fur, pink paws, and a traditional toque. The rat-turned-Chef then comes to life, entertaining diners with nimble movements and lively banter. Chef Remy and the Maitre d’ make stops at each table through the restaurant, and in addition to chatting up the guests, the culinary rodent even breaks out his dance moves every now and then, dancing to various tunes from a romantic French song to a hip-hop jam.

The “Bon Appétit from Chef Remy” experience lasts 40 minutes long and includes small Remy laughing, sniffling, and even flirting with his new restaurant friends. The smallest Audio-Animatronic figure in Walt Disney World history, Remy is part of the Living Character initiative created for Disney Parks by Walt Disney Imagineering.

“By combining technologies, our Living Character initiative creates new levels of guest interaction and brings characters to life like never before,” said Holger Irmler, who worked on the Remy project for Walt Disney Imagineering. “Things we do are so complex, yet our goal is to make them seem so magical to our guests."

Since its inception, the Living Character initiative has been providing guests with never-before-seen animatronics technology and a heaping helping of legendary Disney magic. You might remember the first Living Character debuted in 2004, a large and loveable dinosaur named Lucky who visited Disney’s Animal Kingdom from June to August in 2005. Lucky was an 8 foot tall green dinosaur pulling a flower-covered cart and led by “Chandler the Dinosaur Handler,” and he was able to move freely and talk with guests much like Remy is able to.

Remy was originally debuted at Disneyland Resort Paris and was such a hit that Imagineers chose to have him visit Epcot next, with Les Chefs de France serving as the perfect Parisian setting for the French rat. Guests will be able to visit Chef Remy at the Epcot restaurant every Monday through Saturday until September 5.

For a dining experience like no other, be sure to pay a visit to Epcot soon to see one of Disney’s most charming characters come to life. In addition to getting your Walt Disney World tickets from OrlandoFunTickets.com, we recommend that you make reservations up to 90 days in advance if you plan to dine at Les Chefs de France and meet Chef Remy.

The Walt Disney World Guide for Guests with Disabilities

Disney World can be the most magical, inspiring and wonderful place on earth! It can also be a daunting location to maneuver in a wheelchair, even in the best of times. For those guests who have limited mobility issues or use a wheelchair, visiting the Disney theme parks can be made easier with some planning and newly designed innovations that make entering an attraction much more simple.

“Easy” is the best word to describe visiting the new ride, “Toy Story Mania,” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Living and working in an electric wheelchair is a breeze for my 30-something friend, Michelle, however not all attractions at theme parks are accessible. This however was NOT the case here! As we entered the que, an enthusiastic Cast Member greeted us. We were instructed to continue in our line until we came to a gate, which would allow Michelle, and my self, to load into the car for the ride. The new ride has a separate area to the side of the track where, once loaded onto, the special car will rotate into the ride rotation without any interruption to the ride. Other visitors don’t have to wait while wheelchair guests get onto the ride at this location. Without much time or effort, we were off and ready to go! For us, the ride was a blast! The nostalgic touches and the tie-ins to the movie, by Pixar, were well done and Michelle was delighted that she got to ride the ride! Many guests, such as Michelle, are unable to transfer onto rides. Rides, such as "Toy Story Mania," allow those in wheelchairs to park their wheelchair on the ride, not having to be transferred, so that they also can see and experience the Disney Magic, which they would otherwise miss. Many rides such as “Buzz Lightyear” and “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, and “The Seas With Nemo and Friends” and “Ellen’s Energy Adventure” at Disney's Epcot, all have direct-loading onto a car available where guests can ride an attraction, just by moving their wheelchair or ECV into the allotted space in the car.

Wheelchairs and ECV (Electric Convenience Vehicles) are available for rent at a variety of locations throughout Disney Theme Parks, Disney Water Parks, and Downtown Disney. Wheelchairs are also available for rent in Disney Resort locations, but ECV’s are not. Quantities are limited and subject to availability. Assistive Listening Receivers, which amplify the audio throughout the parks, may be used at several locations. Handheld Captioning is available at many attractions, as well. Guests can visit Guest Relations to obtain these devices.

When entering any of the Theme parks, ask for the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities. These guide books give a description of all of the rides that are available to those with limited mobility. The maps show which attractions can accommodate a wheelchair or ECV and which attractions the guest would need to transfer into a seat in order to ride the attraction. Some rides, will have you enter where other riders are exiting. Just ask the nearest Cast Member for instructions. If you can transfer, most locations have only a few steps, thus if you can take a few steps, don’t miss out just because you have to transfer. In the World of Disney, dreams come true and magic happens all around us.

Top 10 Attractions at Walt Disney World

The Walt Disney World Resort is very well known for their world class theme parks and attractions but with so much to choose from how does one possibly choose a favorite ride or attraction? The answer may be simple – you can’t have just one! Below you will find a list of the 10 most popular attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort – and while some of them (ok, most) are thrill rides and not for the faint of heart, most of these are also attractions that the entire family is sure to fall in love with… and want to experience again and again!

It is important to note, however, that everything below has one prerequisite for you before you can experience it – theme park admission! Yes, Disney has the best attractions of any theme park resort in the world, but if you don’t have any tickets, you are missing out. This is where OrlanfoFunTickets.com can help out – we are your No. 1 online source for discounted Disney tickets, offering you deals that you can’t get anywhere else. Click here now to see all of our unbelievable discounted prices on Walt Disney World tickets so that you can start experiencing these attractions for yourself – and coming up with a top 10 list of your own!

Without further ado, here is OrlandoFunTickets.com’s top 10 attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort.

10. Summit Plummet at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park What goes up must come down! We start off the list with perhaps the biggest thrill ride of them all. Climbing 12 stories in the air, Summit Plummet is a 120-foot ride that is the world’s tallest and fastest free-fall body slide. If that isn’t enough to get you excited (or scared out of your mind!), then you may also want to know that while you take the plunge, you can reach speeds of up to 55 mph. But don’t worry – even if you are scared, it is over in less than five seconds!

9. Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios This show is still fairly new at the Walt Disney World Resort, and it is as popular here as it was at Disneyland Paris where it originated. Featuring incredible stunts using specially-designed cars, motorcycles and jet skis, plus tons of other special effects, this stunt show also gives the audience a rare look at how car chases and collision scenes in movies and on TV are created and filmed.

8. The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot This pavilion in Epcot is based after the loveable movie and begins as you cruise in a clammobile and ride along with all of your favorite friends from the animated feature “Finding Nemo.” Afterwards, all kinds of treats await guests, including up-close views of marine wildlife and the opportunity to interact with your favorite sea turtle, Crush, in Turtle Talk with Crush.

7. Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom Park An oldie-but-goodie, Space Mountain has entertained millions of guests since the Magic Kingdom Park opened and will continue to do so for decades. This attraction is a six-passenger, high-speed roller coaster that is completely in the dark and makes you feel as if you are seated in a rocket that is racing through space. While this thrill ride may have one of the longest wait times you will find in any park, any hard-core Disney enthusiast will tell you that it is well worth the wait!

6. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at Disney’s Hollywood Studios “Walk this way!” That’s right – thrill seekers have found plenty of reasons to walk on over to the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster! Guests jam along to their favorite Aerosmith tunes as they rocket from zero to 60 mph in under two seconds at the beginning of this action-packed ride. The entire coaster is inside and primarily in the dark, and there are plenty of twists and loops along the way to make even the most die-hard thrill ride fans keep coming back for more.

5. Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park A trip to the Walt Disney World Resort would not be complete without a visit to the Kilimanjaro Safaris. On this 32-passenger guided safari adventure through more than 100 acres of re-created African terrain, you can expect to see exotic animals such as giraffes, zebras, rhinos, elephants, crocodiles, lions, hippos and more, as they all roam free throughout the land. There really is no other attraction like this at the Walt Disney World Resort, and whether you are an animal lover or not, we promise this will be a welcome respite from the chaos that awaits you back in the park after your return from the safari.

4. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios This attraction is perhaps the best themed ride in the entire world. From the moment you approach the Hollywood Tower Hotel to the trek you make into the lobby, everything at this attraction will make you believe that you really are entering a hotel from Hollywood’s Golden Age. And once inside, things really start to get scary! Guests will board elevators that have four different random sequences of drops – so you never know which sequence you will get once you get on board. In all, each ride will plummet down 13 stories in matter of just three exhilarating seconds. This attraction never seems to get old, as can be seen by the number of people who ride it daily – and the number of people who repeatedly keep coming back for more.

3. Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park This welcome addition to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is a high-speed train adventure that takes guests through the 20-story towering Forbidden Mountain. While onboard, riders will travel both forward and backward through mountain caverns and canyons as you head for a face-to-face encounter with the yeti – otherwise known as the Abominable Snowman! The first real thrill ride at Animal Kingdom, this ride fits in perfectly at this theme park and has finally given thrill seekers another reason to shout – literally!

2. Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park Consistently rated as the top show at Walt Disney World, this approximately 30-minute intimate production features dancers, singers, characters, and larger-than-life puppets of Simba, Pumba, an elephant and a giraffe in a spectacle that is worth of Broadway. You can expect to see and hear all of your favorite songs from the movie performed, as well as some ballet, acrobatics, fire twirling and a lot of fun for the whole family.

1. Soarin’ at Epcot Soarin’ came to Epcot in 2005 after becoming one of the most popular attractions at Disney’s California Adventure Park in Anaheim, Calif., and this attraction has been marveling guests in Florida ever since. This unique attraction is great because it is enjoyable for literally everyone in the family, no matter what your age or what kind of rides you like to go on. Soarin’ simulates hand gliding over the natural wonders of the state of California, and guests will literally feel the wind in their hair and experience smells such as the California orange groves as they soar across the state. No matter what the wait time, this is one attraction you can’t leave the Walt Disney World Resort without visiting!
