Kirstie Kelly Adds Tiana to Bridal Line
A few months ago OrlandoFunTickets.com talked about Disneys Dream Weddings, where you can get married at the Disney theme parks in a ceremony fit for a prince and princess. The celebrations have been magical for the hundreds of couples that get married at Walt Disney World every year, but there is always one key element to every wedding: the bride’s wedding gown. Thanks to Disney Consumer Products and pro designer Kirstie Kelly, Disney fanatics can choose from a beautiful array of dresses all themed after Disney’s legendary princesses. Kelly is a graduate of The Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles and has been designing for 12 years. If you haven’t seen any of her beautiful gowns you can check them out on the Disney Bridal website. Snow White, Jasmine, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty and even Giselle from Enchanted have gowns of their own. Bridesmaids’ dresses are called “Maidens” and flower girl dresses are called “Blossoms.” There is even the “Red Label” line of Disney wedding gowns for women that wear larger sizes. Now Kirstie Kelly has revealed a new dress for her Kirstie Kelly for Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings collection, and it’s inspired by Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog. Tiana is the newest Disney princess in over 10 years and the first African American princess in Disney history. The Tiana inspired dress is ivory colored with a rouched bodice, a pleated skirt and a waterfall train. The new designs are highly influenced by Tiana’s independent spirit. Her dream isn’t to be rescued by a prince and taken off to a castle; it’s to open up her own restaurant. Her independence greatly inspired Kirstie Kelly’s design. “The Princess Tiana gown is a very special part of the Disney Princess collection,” said Kelly. “When I look at this gown I see a modern woman that is very comfortable with her own identity. The gown is designed for a bride with a modern sensibility and effortlessly exudes both romance and sultry flair.” We’re sure this won’t be the only Tiana gown to come from Kelly’s collection. Considering the other princesses have a number of dresses to their name, we can safely assume Tiana’s first won’t be the last. Labels: cheap disney tickets, Discount Disney Tickets, disney news
Mother Knows Best
Mother knows best, right? Well at the Walt Disney World Resort moms definitely know best with the Walt Disney World Moms Panel. Going to Disney for the first time can be a daunting experience especially for those with young children. Trying to figure out what to pack or thinking of something as simple as figuring out where to eat is hard to do when you have to please a family—so why not let the moms help you out? The Disney Mom’s Panel has an online forum where they offer advice about all sorts of things related to the Disney parks, hotels, shopping and even the Disney Cruise Line. Every year a new panel of moms is selected to work as correspondents for the Walt Disney World Resorts. They can be your source of info if you don’t want to speak to a travel agent and would rather speak to someone who knows, first hand, what traveling to the Disney parks is all about. So what kinds of questions can the Disney Mom’s Panel help you out on? How about starting with the parks themselves. Whether you are visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Epcot or the Magic Kingdom, the moms will help you figure out what’s the best way to navigate the parks and where to begin. Because the moms help guests through an online forum, you can ask whatever question you want and you will receive a number of replies, not only from official panelists, but from other guests of the forum as well. If you’re looking to make a reservation at one of Disney’s fantastic restaurants, the moms can help you on questions regarding dietary restrictions and which restaurant is the most kid friendly. Thinking of catching a fireworks show but not sure if you will be able to bring your stroller? Ask the moms panel. Don’t know if The Haunted Mansion is too scary for the little ones? Ask the moms panel. This valuable resource has become a mainstay in the Disney community. If you would like to be a Disney Mom, applications for new panelists are accepted every year. As a panelist not only would you get to work on the forum, you would also get to attend special Disney events and report on them for the site. Just recently, the Disney Moms were at the unveiling of the new Hall of Presidents and the opening of the new Animal Kingdom restaurant Sanaa. If you would like to apply for the Disney Mom’s Panel, check out the applications and see if it’s a job for you! Labels: cheap disney tickets, Discount Disney Tickets, Disney, disney world
The Disney PhotoPass - Great Photos, Endless Options
Making sure you get the best photos out of your Orlando theme parks vacations is an essential element of making a good trip great. Thanks to the PhotoPass system, getting the best pictures from your trip is a breeze! Participating in the PhotoPass system at the Walt Disney World Resort is as easy as tracking down any Disney cast member with a camera around their neck. Usually located around the best spots for a snapshot in the parks, this cast member will offer to take a free photo of you and your group. Instead of handing you a slip and directing you to a certain shop to go pick up your family picture, you are given a credit card-sized PhotoPass. This handy item is your ticket to an array of photo options later on in the day. Thinking of riding Test Track at Epcot or Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom? Most of the larger rides in the parks now contain kiosks that allow you to swipe your PhotoPass and save your souvenir photo directly onto the card. With one quick swipe you are ready to go off to the next ride, so the PhotoPass saves you a lot of time since you no longer have to wait in line. So what happens once you’ve taken a few photos and want to take a look at them? Located at the center of every Walt Disney World park is a photo center headquarters, so make sure you check your maps or ask a cast member for the photo center closest to you. Your pictures are good for 30 days after they are taken, so these photo centers allow you a number of options for printing and saving your pictures from the card. Along with prints, you can make and order a variety of lovely souvenir items with your photos. The Disney PhotoPass system is constantly updating their custom souvenir website with new and unique options. Make a puzzle out of your Cinderella Castle snapshot, or a calendar out of your meetings with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Of course, regular prints of various sizes are available to order as well. If you want more traditional options, Kodak Picture Maker Kiosks are also located in the parks, usually within the photo centers themselves. You can burn up to 120 photos from your PhotoPass or even your camera’s memory card onto a CD, or directly print out 4X6 prints on the spot. Whichever option you choose, the Disney PhotoPass is a great addition to Walt Disney World Resort. Thanks to the PhotoPass, making unique souvenirs out of your gorgeous photos is as easy as swiping a credit card! Labels: cheap disney tickets, Discount Disney Tickets, Disney, Magic Kingdom
Be Ready for Rainy Days at Walt Disney World
Do not panic - but hurricane season is upon us Floridians, bringing with it the potential of rainy and windy days in Orlando. The hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 with the rainy season generally lasting all summer and bringing a daily afternoon shower. It’s not a reason to forgo your summer vacation or trade in your Disney tickets, but it’s always a good idea to be prepared for ugly weather when you’re traveling to the Sunshine State, which, rain or shine, is always fun. First, it’s not rare for showers to last all day in Central Florida during the summer, but as long as you’ve got the right equipment, it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun at Walt Disney World. When visiting the parks, it’s a very good idea to have a backpack where you can store umbrellas, ponchos, and an extra set of dry clothes and shoes. However, if you’ve forgotten to bring these, don’t fret; the park has ponchos a plenty, and we especially recommend them as the best armor against the rain. Ponchos are available in child and adult sizes and even come in fun Disney character designs. Once you’ve bought one, slide it on and go on about your fun as if it wasn’t raining at all! When it rains, there are certain attractions that close down, such as Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom, Test Track at Epcot, and most outdoor shows, among others. However, there are plenty of indoor shows, rides, and exhibits to keep you busy when this happens, such as Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom, The Art of Disney Animation at Epcot, and Muppet Vision 3D at Hollywood Studios. Plus, you can always enjoy a sit down meal at a Disney restaurant while you wait out the rain, or go shopping for souvenirs. Now, there’s one time when we don’t recommend running around in the rain at Walt Disney World, and that’s when there’s a hurricane warning. If - knock on wood - Florida does happen to be affected by a hurricane, Disney resort guests can take some comfort in the fact that they can call in advance to reschedule or cancel their reservations within 7 days of their arrival, should the National Hurricane Center issue a hurricane warning for the Orlando area. If you’re already in town when a hurricane is about to hit, rest assured that Disney is #1 when it comes to hurricane preparedness. It was even the first theme park to be recognized by the National Weather Service as a StormReady Community in 2006. When a hurricane approaches, the parks and hotels put their emergency plans into place, closing down the parks and tying everything down. Hotel guests are asked to stay in their rooms, or they are evacuated to a more secure location, as is the case with the Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Then it’s just a matter of hunkering down and enjoying some complimentary Disney movies on TV while the storm blows over. The most important thing with inclement weather in Orlando, however, is never to let it ruin your vacation. After all, rain isn’t all bad – just recently, for example, storm clouds provided the cover for a rare daytime hatching of loggerhead sea turtles near Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. So if you plan on coming to Orlando this summer, pack an umbrella or poncho, but get ready to have just as much fun as you would any other time of the year. Even wet days at the Disney parks are great – so get your Walt Disney World tickets from OrlandoFunTickets.com today! Labels: cheap disney tickets, Disney, weather
Water Park Fun & More: Disney's Wide World of Sports
As summertime brings warm, sunny days and beautiful, breezy nights to Orlando, there is no better time to explore some of the different offerings of Walt Disney World. And the best way to take advantage of said offerings is through Disney's Water Park Fun and More ticket option, which is an all-in-one access pass to Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, Disney's Wide World of Sports, Disney's Oak Trail Golf Course, and DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney. Over the past few weeks, we've been highlighting some of these great Disney spots and why the Water Park Fun & More ticket option is such a steal. And in our final installment this week, we're checking out the games at Disney's Wide World of Sports. The Wide World of Sports (WWoS) Complex at Walt Disney World is a mysterious entity. Many visitors to Walt Disney World are unsure of what exactly the complex is. After all, it's big enough to be a Disney theme park itself, but the WWoS doesn't pull in nearly as many admissions as the other parks do. Still, for the players participating in an ever-important championship game, and for the spectators who get to be witness to that game, the Wide World of Sports is just as magical as Magic Kingdom. To put in simpler terms, the WWoS is a 200 acre athletic complex located inside Walt Disney World. Made up of nine different venues, the comples hosts over 170 amateur and professional sporting events throughout the year. Its clients represent some of the best names in sports - the AAU, Pop Warner, the Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the USSSA, and more. The WWos complex consists of Champion Stadium, an impressive 9,500-seat baseball stadium that's hosted two regular season Major League Baseball series; the Milk House, a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena; the Jostens Center, a similar but smaller arena; the Hess Sports Fields, eight multi-purpose fields equipped to host multiple sports; the Baseball Quadraplex consisting of four professional baseball fields and practice facilities; the Diamondplex, consisting of six fields used for softball and youth baseball; the Centre Court Stadium, a ten-court tennis complex; and the Track and Field Complex, a 500-seat competition facility for track and field events. Though WWoS is different from the other Walt Disney World attractions in the sense that you can't randomly drop by and explore it (the complex is closed if there are no events going on), it often offers a variety of unique and unusual sporting events sports lovers can really get into. For example, every year the PGA Tour tees off at the complex with the Children's Miracle Network Classic. The Braves hold spring training there every year, and the Disney's Soccer Showcase features 600 of the best soccer teams in the country battling it out. The famed Walt Disney World Marathon, which runs through the various parks, is also hosted there every year. So next time you take a trip to Walkt Disney World, we suggest checking out the events scheduled that week at Disney's Wide World of Sports for some fun at an lesser-known Disney attraction. Parking at the complex is free, though there is an admission fee for spectators. However, if you have the Water Park Fun & More ticket, you'll get in free! When you consider all the events hosted at the Wide World of Sports, along with all the other admissions that come with the Water Park Fun & More option, adding it onto your Walt Disney World tickets just makes sense. Check out OrlandoFunTickets.com now for Water Park Fun & More, and have fun at the water parks, the golf course, the sports complex - or wherever you decide to go. Disney's Animal Kingdom is Home for Endangered Animals
Earlier this January, Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge welcomed the birth of two Ruppells Griffon Vultures. They’re the first hatchings of this threatened species at Walt Disney World. Each chick weighed less than six ounces and was about eight inches long, a far cry from what they’ll grow up to be – up to three feet in height and 15-20 pounds, with a wingspan of nearly eight feet. Over the past twenty years, the population of Ruppell’s Griffon Vultures has been declining, leading the International Union for Conservation of Nature to raise the species’ status to threatened. Members of Disney’s Animal Programs Team hope to increase the species population and generate more awareness of the challenges these birds face. However, the Ruppell’s Griffon Vultures wouldn’t be the first threatened or endangered animal to be born thanks to the efforts of Disney. Though Animal Kingdom is obviously themed around animals, many may not realize that the park is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, meaning that it has met and exceeded the standards in education, animal conservation, and research. In addition to Ruppell’s Griffon Vulture, Disney welcomed a newborn calf to a herd of African elephants at Animal Kingdom last summer. Twenty-six-year-old Moyo gave birth to a 327-pound male, a significant birth since African elephants are endangered and challenging to breed. And last December, Animal Kingdom saw the birth of its 28th Gerenuk calf, born under the Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s Gerenuk Population Management Plan. To learn more about animal conservation and see what Disney is doing, the best thing you can do is take a train ride over to Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Animal Kingdom. There, guests can see endangered cottontop tamarin primates up close at the Habitat Habit!, a fun and educational wildlife trail dedicated to the preservation of animals. You’ll learn about different conservation efforts as you get an up-close look at the inner workings of Animal Kingdom. Also, don’t miss a chance to visit the Conservation Station, the center of Disney efforts to promote wildlife conservation awareness. A behind-the-scenes look at the animals of Animal Kingdom, Conservation Station allows guests to meet with animal handlers, learn about veterinary care, and other day-to-day activities at Animal Kingdom. You’ll also take part in a variety of wild animal experiences, interactive shows, and games. There’s even a veterinary hospital viewing window that allows guests to watch medical procedures conducted by the veterinary staff. Similar to Animal Kingdom, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is dedicating to giving people a greater appreciation for wildlife. Home to a wide variety of animals that either originated from Animal Kingdom or other zoos, the lodge is a working wildlife reserve with a 33-acre savannah. Its species include Grant’s zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, sacred ibis, Ankole-Watusi Cattle, white-bearded wildebeest, and more. All the animals inhabiting the lodge savannah return periodically to an on-site animal care facility for feeding and routine care. There’s no doubt that when it comes to the conservation and care of animals, whether stable in the wild, threatened, or endangered, Animal Kingdom is the cat’s pajamas – and the cat’s shelter, too. Take a trip into the wild and see what you can do to help; check out Walt Disney World tickets today at OrlandoFunTickets.com. Indy Racing Experience Comes to Walt Disney World
Joining the Richard Petty Driving Experience on the one mile paved Walt Disney World Speedway track is the Indy Racing Experience, having opened on November 17th. Now race fans and thrill seekers will have the chance to drive and ride in actual Indianapolis 500 race cars for an experience like no other. After suiting up in authentic driver fire suits and being strapped in by the Indy Racing Experience pit crew, guests will have the opportunity to drive a two-seat Indy Racing car especially customized for the experience. Stretched out in the two-seat car, guests can also experience the g-forces of racecar driving as the car is driven by a professional racer. The four Dallara cars at the Indy Racing Experience have been fitted with 1.8 liter six-cylinder Honda engines, which are less powerful than the racing league cars, but otherwise, exactly the same. Drivers can even hit speeds close to 100 mph, since the open-cockpit cars weight half as much as a 2009 Toyota Corolla. And with the unique design of the Walt Disney World Speedway track, a tri-oval with three uniquely banked corners and elevation changes, both drivers and riders are sure to find the Indy Racing Experience a thrill. Though this tourist attraction is pricey, fans say it’s worth every penny. For $109 plus tax, passengers can go along for a ride, and for $399, customers can get behind the wheel and feel the excitement of driving an IndyCar Series car. The ride-along experience lasts three laps, while the driving experience consists of 1 warm-up lap, 6 laps at speed, and 1 cool-down lap. Normally, the Experience travels with the Indy Racing Leagues. And though the company will continue to do that, there’s a good chance Orlando will become its permanent home. “Since we first began the Indy Racing Experience [in 2001], fans have traveled the globe to feel firsthand what it is like to race around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - the Racing Capital of the World. Millions of people also descend on the Orlando area annually for its renowned attractions, including Walt Disney World, so we feel our Indy Racing Experience is both a unique and fitting addition to this exciting landscape,” said Scott Jasek, co-owner of the Indy Racing Experience. The Indy Racing Experience will be sharing the track with the Richard Petty Driving Experience, which offers rides in stock cars ( discount Richard Petty Driving Experience tickets are still available at OrlandoFunTickets.com). Both attractions are open to guests on a first-come, first-serve basis, and drivers are required to be at least 18 years old. Don’t miss a chance to enjoy the rush and adrenaline of the Indy Racing Experience near Magic Kingdom! Happy Birthday to Disney's Mickey Mouse!
Many may not know it, but today is the 8th birthday of Disneys Mickey Mouse. So in honor of our favorite black and white mouse in red shorts (which he’s been wearing for a really long time), we’ve compiled a short Mickey biography, so that everyone can remember how it all started with a mouse. Mickey has come a long way since he was born in Walt Disney’s imagination. First appearing in Steamboat Willie, a short black-and-white animated musical on November 18th, 1928, Mickey’s debut was the first cartoon to feature synchronized music and sound effects. The lovable mouse was an instant hit, and Steamboat Willie was soon followed by two other cartoons. By the end of the year, Mickey was a national fad, and it wasn’t long before Walt Disney started up a line of Mickey merchandise and a fan club for children, the Mickey Mouse Club. By 1937, Disney Studios was in full swing, producing about 12 shorts a year in which Mickey got into all kinds of mischief and fun. Walt Disney did Mickey’s voice himself and oversaw the production of 87 shorts starring the mouse by the end of the decade. As Mickey continued his rise to fame, the Mickey Mouse Club eventually got its own TV show, and soon enough, Disneyland was born. Mickey moved to the theme park as its main host, greeting visitors and shaking hands, and the success of the park led to the opening of Walt Disney World in 1971. Mickey also appeared in a kimono and beret, respectively, for the openings of Tokyo Disneyland in 1983 and Disneyland Resort Paris in 1992. And as they say, the rest is history. Now, Mickey continues to be Disney’s most popular symbol and beloved symbol. Appearing everywhere from celebrity T-shirts to Playstation video games, Mickey Mouse doesn’t ever seem to go out of style. And although Walt Disney World isn’t holding any extravagant birthday parties for Mickey this year, there’s no better way to celebrate his birthday than by enjoying all the Mickey fun at Walt Disney World theme parks. For one amusing activity, try to hunt down all the Hidden Mickeys. What’s a “Hidden Mickey,” you ask? It started out as an inside joke among the Walt Disney Imagineers – they concealed images of Mickey (typically the silhouette of his head and ears) in the design of Disney attractions such as rides and resorts. There’s one hidden in the alien symbols on The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter at Magic Kingdom, and there are Mickeys hidden on the manhole covers at Epcot. Though Disney has no official list of confirmed Hidden Mickeys, it’s exciting to visit the park and see how many you can spot. A literal and figurative symbol of his mark on Walt Disney World, Mickey is hidden everywhere! As a nod to Disney’s house mouse, you can also visit Mickey’s Toontown Fair in Magic Kingdom. Originally opened on Mickey’s 60th birthday as a temporary attraction called Mickey’s Birthdayland, the area was so popular with park guests that it was made a permanent attraction. Over the years, it has evolved into the Toontown Fair we know and love today, and it’s a place where you’re guaranteed to see Mickey and all his friends. Be sure to get your discount Magic Kingdom tickets here at OrlandoFunTickets.com, so you can rush out to the parks and start having fun with Mickey. And to the most influential mouse in the world, the one and only Mickey Mouse, we wish you Happy Birthday! May you continue to warm our hearts for 80 more years. Many Orlando hotels offer free shuttle service to and from the airport, and there are also transportation companies that will drive you to your hotel for a fee. Choosing either one of these options can save you the cost of a rental car and gas. If you decide to stay at the Walt Disney World Resort in a Disney-owned hotel, you can catch a ride on Disney’s Magical Express. Disney’s complimentary shuttle service picks you up at the Orlando International Airport and drops you in front of your Disney hotel. They also take care of your luggage and return you to the airport at the end of your trip. Orlando Vacation Cost Cutter #3It’s no secret that the cost to fly anywhere has soared in recent months. No matter where you are coming from, flying into Orlando for your summer vacation has gotten pretty pricey. Before gas prices spiked, driving to Orlando was a valid option, but no longer. Have you considered traveling by train? Amtrak has routes that bring you into Orlando or Kissimmee, and you can easily grab a taxi or shuttle to your hotel from either station. Train travel can be much cheaper than flying or driving– not to mention a lot more comfortable. The important thing to remember when planning your Orlando vacation is to do some research and make sure you get all of your Orlando theme park tickets at the Web’s best Orlando attraction ticket shop, OrlandoFunTickets.com! Save the Planet During Your Orlando Vacation
Earth Day brings to mind the many ways we can all contribute to saving the planet. Enough information is out there by now so that no one has an excuse for not conserving, even on vacation. Even though you are taking time off from work, that doesn’t mean you can take time off from saving the world. One of the best ways to conserve both time and money is to get all of the theme park tickets you need for your Orlando vacation in one place. OrlandoFunTickets.com is the best one-stop-shop on the Web for Disney tickets, SeaWorld tickets, Universal tickets, Busch Gardens tickets, Discovery Cove tickets, and tickets to all of your favorite Orlando attractions. We can even get you tickets to your favorite Orlando dinner shows! Great Ways to Conserve on Your Orlando VacationAfter you save time and money by getting all of your Orlando attraction tickets right here, keep these suggestions in mind to stay green during your Orlando vacation: - Recycle! The fact that you’re staying in a hotel doesn’t mean you can throw away those bottles and cans. Check with your hotel’s front desk and make sure they provide a way for you to recycle during your vacation, especially since we all tend to use more disposable items when we are away from home.
- Use those buses, trams, boats and monorails. If your hotel offers transportation, take advantage of it. First of all, this gives the driver a vacation from driving (and you are on vacation after all, right?). Second, it saves energy by transporting a few larger groups of people (15 families sharing one shuttle bus) instead of many smaller groups (15 families in 15 cars) cough-cough.
- Turn off the lights and TV. We know you’re not paying the electric bill during your Orlando hotel stay. But that doesn’t give you license to be wasteful. If you’re not using it, turn it off. Even if the money to pay the bill isn’t coming out of your wallet, in the long run everyone on the planet will pay for wastefulness.
Following these few suggestions will help you to stay green during your Orlando vacation. But remember the best savings of all is to get your cheap Orlando theme park tickets at OrlandoFunTickets.com!
