Kirstie Kelly Adds Tiana to Bridal Line
A few months ago OrlandoFunTickets.com talked about Disneys Dream Weddings, where you can get married at the Disney theme parks in a ceremony fit for a prince and princess. The celebrations have been magical for the hundreds of couples that get married at Walt Disney World every year, but there is always one key element to every wedding: the bride’s wedding gown. Thanks to Disney Consumer Products and pro designer Kirstie Kelly, Disney fanatics can choose from a beautiful array of dresses all themed after Disney’s legendary princesses. Kelly is a graduate of The Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles and has been designing for 12 years. If you haven’t seen any of her beautiful gowns you can check them out on the Disney Bridal website. Snow White, Jasmine, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty and even Giselle from Enchanted have gowns of their own. Bridesmaids’ dresses are called “Maidens” and flower girl dresses are called “Blossoms.” There is even the “Red Label” line of Disney wedding gowns for women that wear larger sizes. Now Kirstie Kelly has revealed a new dress for her Kirstie Kelly for Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings collection, and it’s inspired by Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog. Tiana is the newest Disney princess in over 10 years and the first African American princess in Disney history. The Tiana inspired dress is ivory colored with a rouched bodice, a pleated skirt and a waterfall train. The new designs are highly influenced by Tiana’s independent spirit. Her dream isn’t to be rescued by a prince and taken off to a castle; it’s to open up her own restaurant. Her independence greatly inspired Kirstie Kelly’s design. “The Princess Tiana gown is a very special part of the Disney Princess collection,” said Kelly. “When I look at this gown I see a modern woman that is very comfortable with her own identity. The gown is designed for a bride with a modern sensibility and effortlessly exudes both romance and sultry flair.” We’re sure this won’t be the only Tiana gown to come from Kelly’s collection. Considering the other princesses have a number of dresses to their name, we can safely assume Tiana’s first won’t be the last. Labels: cheap disney tickets, Discount Disney Tickets, disney news
Disney Supports High Speed Train
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel throughout Central Florida without having to brave the treacherous I-4? If the Florida government gets its way, you might soon be traveling on a high-speed train that will connect the Orlando, Lakeland and Tampa areas. The US’s first high-speed train first debuted back in 2000. The Acela Express now runs through New Jersey at speeds of up to 150 mph. Now Florida is hoping we will have a similar train to get commuters where they need to go. The Obama administration set aside $8 billion dollars to improve the mass-transit systems of various cities across the nation. Cities from Los Angeles to Boston have all made their plea to the administration, but Florida has one ally these cities could never top: Disney World. Florida has been lobbying for years now, trying to impose both a statewide rail system and now this high-speed rail system in Central Florida. But when the news that Walt Disney World supported the high-speed rail was announced, Floridians in favor of the train took it as a win. Disney has already offered up 50 acres of land to the project. They are now hoping a train station within or near the Walt Disney World Resort (probably close to Celebration) will be built to allow more guests easier access to the Disney parks. Florida is asking the government for $2.5 billion dollars to get the project started. Another advantage we have over other cities is that Florida is ready to begin construction within 14 months. All we need is the okay (and the money) to get going. With the grant, officials say we could complete the project by 2014. This would be a great addition to Central Florida and make it much easier to travel between the parks. The train would connect Orlando International Airport, Orange County Convention Center, Walt Disney World near Celebration, Lakeland, and the Morgan Street Jail in Downtown. With fares rumored to be at $20 each way and all of these great stops, the rail would be great for Central Florida. Labels: disney news, orlando news, transportation
One Drop, Big Difference for Cirque du Soleil Creator
Here in Orlando we are lucky to have the Cirque du Soleil resident show La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida. This beautiful show draws in thousands of guests eager to see the beautiful costumes and acrobatics of Cirque’s quality productions. Now the creator of this Montreal-based company will be embarking on a historical journey of his own in the name of charity. Guy Laliberté will be visiting the International Space Station with a Russian space crew via Soyuz-TMA 16 rocket to participate in an event called the Poetic Social Mission. This global event will help the environmental and humanitarian charity known as the One Drop Foundation. This foundation brings to light the troubles of those in third world countries that have limited or polluted water supply. At OneDrop.org’s website, you can read the shocking statistics regarding water shortages that the citizens of these nations face every day. It takes about three gallons of water to produce one sheet of paper. Many of these citizens have only one gallon of water to survive off of each day. Once you do the math and realize how much water we take for granted, you will realize the importance of Laliberté’s Poetic Social Mission. From space, Laliberté will be doing a webcast that will feature appearances by the world’s biggest politicians and entertainers. This will be a LIVE historical global webcast, which will be broadcasted from 14 cities worldwide. Expect to see stars like Al Gore, Matthew McConaughey, Salma Hayek, and U2 all joining in to help promote Guy Laliberté and OneDrop’s mission of “Water for All, All for Water,” in order to help those suffering in poor nations. As someone that has brought the incredible artistry of his Cirque du Soleil shows to cities all around the world, it’s great to see Guy Laliberté pushing creative limits even further by bringing global awareness to this cause from the International Space Station. If you want to help, visit OneDrop.org or check out their Facebook, and Twitter pages. Also, don’t forget to tune into the historical webcast on October 9 at 8 pm Eastern Time and do your part to help save the world’s water sources and bring attention to this great cause. Disney's Give a Day Get a Day VoluntEARS Get Free Admission!
We all know how important it is to volunteer and serve your community to help those that need it in this tough world. Now Disney is trying to get the entire country to realize how important it is to volunteer…by giving potential “VoluntEARS” one of the best incentives around! Starting January 1, 2010, citizens can sign up for one day of volunteer service. Once you complete your day of volunteer service and have proof of your efforts, you will get one day’s admission to one park in Disneyland or the Walt Disney World Resort. So not only will you get the reward of a job well done and helping someone in need, you’ll get the reward of getting into Disney for free - awesome, right? Disney is partnering with the HandsOn Network. This is the largest volunteer group in the nation. The HandsOn Network has 250 Hands In Action Centers that will be helping Disney facilitate this great program. Even Annual Pass holders will be able to benefit from this great program. You will be eligible to receive a Disney FastPass, an Ear Hat figurine with special trading pins or you also have the option of donating your ticket to a non-profit organization. To further promote this great program, Disney is launching a “Cheers to Volunteers” sweepstakes. Five day trips for four will be given away for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World with Southwest Airlines pitching in for the transportation section of the contest. With President Obama calling on Americans to volunteer and give back to the community as well, it seems all of America is trying to get into the giving spirit. Jay Rasulo, the chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, wants to get as many volunteers invested in serving the community as possible. “In 2010, we want to recognize and add one more reason for celebration: the contributions people make to their communities every day,” said Jay Rasulo. “We want to inspire one million volunteers – people who will invest time and energy to make their own communities and neighborhoods a better place.” The Give a Day Get a Day program sounds like a great way to start. Where will you be volunteering? Labels: Disney, disney events, disney news, walt disney world, walt disney world events, Walt Disney World News
Orlando Gets Glamorous with the Waldorf Astoria
When you think of glamorous cities, does Orlando come to mind? We are sure you probably think of New York and Paris before the theme park capital even comes close to popping up in your head. Well thanks to the legendary Waldorf Astoria hotel from New York, Orlando will be getting a dose of luxury over in Bonnet Creek. Nestled close to the Walt Disney World Resort, this beautiful hotel will provide visitors a decadent escape from the Orlando theme park madness, theme restaurants and theme hotels. Going to the parks is great, but knowing you get to go home to a luxurious hotel room after a long day of riding fun attractions (and having to deal with their long lines) is even better. Orlando’s Waldorf Astoria is only the second Waldorf Astoria in the world and the first of the hotels to be a resort. Much like the New York Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue, you will find beautiful rooms and décor including a marble floor lobby with sky blue domed ceilings and a replica of the clock in the New York location. This clock made of wood and nickel also chimes every 15 minutes and uses the same tone as the original clock in NYC. The prices of the hotel rooms aren’t a bad deal either. Prices this fall will start at around $200, much cheaper than in New York. While this lucky price streak reverses in March (the Orlando Waldorf Astoria will have rooms starting at $330 while the NYC rooms will be $240) you can’t beat that price for the chance to stay in the hotel of hotels. There are a few unique Florida features at the Bonnet Creek Waldorf. For example, the patio and its furniture are built to withstand hurricanes and instead of getting views of New York City you’ll get incredible views of the hotel’s multiple golf courses and beautiful pools. The Waldorf Astoria’s general manager thinks this is the best time to open the Orlando branch considering the additions of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to Universal Studios Orlando and the massive expansion of Fantasyland over at the Magic Kingdom. "The next foreseeable five or six years are going to be dynamic in Orlando," said General Manager R. Michael King. "We're here at an opportune moment when that's happening." This is sure to be a hit with luxury travelers! Labels: Disney, disney news, hotel advice, orlando hotels, Walt Disney World News
Walt Disney Family Museum
We are a long way from Anaheim here in Orlando, but we can still get in on the Disney fun at the Walt Disney World Resort. But now even Anaheim Disney fans will have to make a trip up to San Francisco to see the newest addition to the Disney family of attractions, the Walt Disney Family Museum. No there aren’t any rides or parades at this formal museum, but for fans of the man that created Mickey Mouse himself, getting to Walt Disney Family Museum is going to be a trip worth taking. The Walt Disney Family Museum is gearing up for its grand opening on October 1st of 2009. Like any museum there will be permanent galleries and touring exhibits of personal artifacts from Walt Disney’s life and his family’s life. Of course, you can’t think of Walt and not think of the mouse, so there will be a great element of Disney characters featured in the museum—just not in the way you may think. Unlike the Disney theme parks you will find less bright colors and more of a learning environment. Expect to see Walt’s early sketches of Mickey as well as learn about his journey toward becoming one of the most legendary animators and creators of all time. The Presidio will be the location of this great new venture. With five barrack buildings featuring exhibits, a museum store and a museum café with organic, local foods catered by Wolfgang Puck this is going to be a Disney experience with a high level of sophistication. Perhaps the coolest part of the new Walt Disney Family Museum is the Museum Campus. This building is a huge 20,000 square foot space of glass and steel that connects three floors of educational opportunities. Guests of the museum will get to take classes on computer animation as well as learn the art techniques that made the classic animated Disney films the legends that they are today. The Walt Disney Family Museum has been a long time coming and it’s going to be great to get to learn about the man that made the mouse from a different perspective. Now we just need to get to San Francisco! Labels: Disney, disney news
