Walt Disney World Tries to Make Dining Easier

You can work up an appetite making your way through the Orlando theme parks and standing in all of those ride lines. There are so many great places to eat at the Disney theme parks too. Over at the Magic Kingdom you have the great buffet restaurant The Crystal Palace. For a great hotdog or cheeseburger you can check out Casey’s Corner. There are also a variety of dining locations throughout the parks like the Noodle Stand in Tomorrowland or Mrs. Potts’ ice cream shop in Fantasyland. The great themed restaurants at Disney’s Hollywood Studios are always fun to check out. You have the Sci-Fi Diner where you can sit in a “car” and watch old sci-fi movies while waitresses roller skate up to you. Over at the Prime Time Diner, a 50’s themed restaurant, you can enjoy old-fashioned American food where the waitresses make sure you eat all of your food—just like mom would.

But if you’ve ever eaten at any of these restaurants, you might have had to encounter one of the negatives: overcrowding. Especially during the summer, when park attendance is at its highest thanks to the kids being out of school, the Disney restaurants can be an incredibly stressful experience. Groups usually have to designate people to order the food while the other group goes to reserve the table. If you’re in a large group, it’s especially difficult. Well, the problem was apparently getting out of hand and Disney, always ready to please their customers, is ready to change the system to make dining at the parks a smoother experience.

You will no longer be able to send someone to hold a table for your party. Disney restaurant cast members will now be seating hungry guests in their restaurants much like a waiter would in a regular restaurant. This doesn’t apply to every restaurant in the Disney parks, only the quick service restaurants like the Commissary at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While some guests are complaining about the longer wait times this is causing, Disney feels this will help make the dining process easier, even if it does take a little bit longer.

Walt Disney World Marathon Puts Runners to a Magical Test

Generally, when most visitors come to Walt Disney World, they like to take their time while they absorb all the sights and attractions. But from January 8th to January 11th, speed will be the order of the day when 45,000 runners whiz through Disney theme parks during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. Presented by CIGNA, this annual event is one of the most popular tests of endurance in the US.

The Marathon, a 26.2-mile course, will take runners through all four Walt Disney World theme parks. Having been called the “26 Most Magical Miles on Earth,” the route starts at Magic Kingdom, then continues through Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and then finishes at Epcot. Runners will enjoy entertainment along the route in the form of characters and other surprises, and fireworks will provide an explosive start to the beginning of the marathon. Considered one of the most fun marathons to run in the country, the Marathon also provides runners with on course and post-race refreshments, commemorative t-shirts and goody bags, certificates, and the coveted Mickey Mouse medals.

In addition to the regular Marathon on Sunday, January 11th, five other events will be held during the weekend: the Walt Disney World Half Marathon, Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, the Circle of Life 5k, Mickey’s Marathon Kids’ Fest, and Disney’s Health and Fitness Expo.

The Half Marathon on Saturday, January 10th, is a 13.1-mile course that extends from Epcot to Magic Kingdom and finishes back at Epcot. It’s a great way for less seasoned runners to enjoy the Marathon. The Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, on the other hand, is the ultimate test of endurance; it includes the Half Marathon on Saturday and the full Marathon on Sunday. Those who finish both races within the time limit will be awarded the special Goofy medal. The Circle of Life 5k is on Friday, January 9th, and is a family race that adults, teenagers, and kids can all enjoy together. And just for the youngsters, Disney’s Kids Races includes a new Mickey Mile for ages 13 and under on Friday, a 400m dash for 7 and 8-year-olds, a 200m dash for 4 through 6-year-olds, a 100m dash for 1 through 3 year-olds, and the famous Diaper Dash for children 12 months and under. Disney’s Health and Fitness Expo will be a three-day fitness showcase going on throughout the Marathon Weekend at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. It will feature seminars, celebrity runner appearances, and the latest in running and fitness equipment.

Though all the Marathon events except the Mickey’s Marathon Kids’ Fest are sold out, spectators are welcome to watch the race, and family and friends can track participants online with Runner Tracking. Spectators can also sign up for the ChEAR Squad and receive a special spectator package, as well as the inside scoop on the best course viewing areas.

This year, all eyes are on Brazilian champion Adriano Bastos, a 30-year-old runner from Sao Paolo who has won the Walt Disney World Marathon five times, four of those wins occurring consecutively in the last four years. Also among the 45,000 participants is Saul Mendoza, a wheelchair racer honored as Mexico’s Athlete of the 20th Century. Mendoza will be vying for his 10th Disney championship.

It’s sure to be a fiery weekend on the Disney paths when the Walt Disney World Marathon takes over the parks. Whether you’re a running enthusiast or not, there’s sure to be plenty of fun and surprises that anyone will enjoy. Get your discount Disney tickets now at OrlandoFunTickets.com, and you can cash in on all the magical miles and smiles.

Orlando Theme Parks are the Best in the World

Orlando theme parks hold 3 of the top 10 spots on the list of worlds best theme park chains recently released by Themed Entertainment Associates and Economic Research Associates. And we have the discount Orlando theme park tickets you need to see for yourself.

Walt Disney World Takes the Top Spot
Walt Disney World
is the number 1 theme park chain in the world with 116.5 million 2007 attendance, according to the TEA/ERA report published on March 14.

Universal and Anheuser-Busch Parks Also Rank High on List
Universal Orlando Resort theme parks took third place in the TEA/ERA list of top theme park chains in the world with attendance of 26.4 million. Busch Entertainment parks, which include local favorites SeaWorld Orlando, Discovery Cove, and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay came in sixth with reported attendance of 22.3 million in 2007.

All of Orlando’s Theme Parks Make List of Top 25 Theme Parks Worldwide
Virtually every one of the 8 major Orlando theme parks made the top 25 list, and half of them – all Disney parks – were in the top 10.
1 – Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World
6 – Epcot at Walt Disney World
7 – Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World
8 – Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World
11 – Universal Studios at Universal Orlando Resort
12 – SeaWorld Orlando
15 – Islands of Adventure at the Universal Orlando Resort
19 – Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Grabbing the top spot, Disney’s Magic Kingdom reportedly had a whopping 17 million visitors last year. You can join in that crowd by getting your Disney tickets today!

Orlando Water Parks Also Placed Among the World’s Best
Orlando water parks nabbed 4 of the top 20 spots on the list of world’s best water parks.
Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, both at the Walt Disney World Resort, placed 1st and 2nd respectively, while Wet N’ Wild came in 4th. Busch’s Adventure Island in Tampa Bay ranked number 15 on the list that included water parks from as far away as Korea and Australia.

Attendance was up at all of the Orlando water parks in 2007, but they have some new competition this year with the opening of Aquatica at SeaWorld.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom saw the biggest jump in attendance, thanks to Expedition Everest, a crazy coaster that’s worth the price of admission (especially when you get your discount Disney tickets here!).
