Eating Healthy in the Parks
Mickey shaped ice cream bars, Shamu slushees, Jurassic Park cheeseburgers, French fries, and soda galore - Ahh, the joys of theme park food! It is all delicious and fun, until your guilty weight-and-health conscious mind steps into the picture. But, dining at the Orlando theme parks does not need to be this way, thanks to newer and healthier in-park dining options! Walt Disney World is notorious for delicious in-park food options. Disney understands that people are becoming more health conscious and have begun implementing numerous healthy dining and snacking options for those who visit their four Disney theme parks. As you walk around the parks, each park has at least one fresh fruit stand. Also, look to grab fast options such as Dole whips, turkey legs, a cup of chili, or fresh fruit bars to keep fat and calories at bay! When going to a quick-dining option in the parks, look for Disney’s newest side items, for kids and adults alike, such as low-fat milk, 100% fruit juice, unsweetened applesauce, baby carrots, or fresh fruit – in replacement of the fatty French fries and soda. When at Disney sit-down restaurants, don’t be afraid to speak up! They are more than willing to accept your special dietary needs requests. Ask if you can substitute for a healthier side item, put dressings on the side, or for sugar-free or fat-free dessert options. Universal Studios Orlando has been put on the map recently for their break-through dining options of trans-fat-free in-park dining options! Many of the in-park restaurants and food locations at Universal Orlando offer cooking in trans-fat free oil or heart-healthier options. Kid’s meals now come with the option of fruit or trans-fat-free French fries, while adults have the choice of a side salad or trans-fat-free French fries. SeaWorld Orlando has been doing its part in conservation for the animals and the environment over the years, but now they are doing their best to conserve one of the top animals on the planet – humans. With healthy food stops, SeaWorld Orlando has some of the most heart-healthy options out of all of the theme parks. At Mama’s Kitchen Healthy Alternatives, guests can get quick-service options that are prepared with fresh ingredients and lower-fat items. Diners can visit any restaurant throughout the park and see low-fat, low-carb, sugar-free, and vegetarian options. If you are looking to satisfy your sweet tooth without sacrificing your diet, SeaWorld Orlando can help you out with their sugar-free options at Polar Parlor ice cream shop, Sweet Sailin’ Candy Shop, and the Cypress Bakery. All of the Orlando theme parks are jumping onto the health band-wagon, to make Orlando vacations healthier and happier than ever! So, make your diet and wallet happier. With the help of OrlandoFunTickets.com, you can save money on your discount theme park tickets while getting the scoop on these great healthy dining options. The Wave Hits Disneys Contemporary Resort
The Walt Disney World Resort is becoming something of a Mecca for food lovers, and the latest Disney dining experience promises to add to that reputation. The Wave is located on the first floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. It opened in late May, and became one of the largest full-service restaurants on Walt Disney World property. The Wave is an example of “bold cooking inspired by fresh markets,” according to Disney VP of New Concepts, Dieter Hannig. Walt Disney World’s latest restaurant venture at the Contemporary Resort speaks to Disney’s ever-growing melting pot of visitors by adding world flavors to American favorites. Disney’s Contemporary Resort is one of the most recognized icons on Walt Disney World property, and the opening of The Wave only makes this Disney resort more enticing to potential guests. With creative options for both dining and drinking, The Wave is sure to become a favorite with Disney vacationers. The Wave is in the first floor area of the Contemporary Resort that used to be known as the Food and Fun Center. This section was totally demolished and rebuilt into a serene and inviting new Disney dining space. The Wave is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and their food selections fit right in with the healthy-minded vacationers of the 21st century. You know, the ones that think what you eat on vacation does count. The breakfast menu includes traditional items like Eggs Benedict and a Ham and Cheese Omelet, but it also includes healthier choices like Multigrain Waffles or French Toast and Acai Juice. Smart choices for lunch and dinner include Today’s Sustainable Fish with edamame stew, Spice-crusted Chicken Salad using local greens and Vegetable Stew served with multigrain rice. Dessert at The Wave is a freshly unique experience, where you choose between four different selections – Creamy Indulgence, Decadent Flavors, Crispy and Crunchy and Freshly Crafted Sorbets. Each selection is made up of three delicious “mini-favorites” that can also be mixed and matched. The Wave has an innovative, cutting-edge wine program that refrains from serving California wines, which are available at the California Grill up on the 15th Floor, and only serves wine with screw caps. Using screw caps is the latest “revolution in wine packaging,” according to Disney wine experts. With its intimate setting – especially at night when the lights are turned down – and its relaxing atmosphere, The Wave at the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World may be the perfect place for a casual and fulfilling meal during your Disney vacation. And with its great food and unique wine program, you should definitely include The Wave on your Walt Disney World vacation to do list.
