Child Swap at Disney
One of the best-kept yet well-known secrets at the Walt Disney World Resort is the child swap program. Have you ever been to the parks with a little one who doesn’t quite yet meet the height restrictions for a specific ride? When this used to happen, one adult would always have to stay behind and miss going on that attraction. Now, Disney’s child swap ensures that no one (except, unfortunately, the child) is left behind. So how does the child swap program work then? When you approach an attraction that has a height limit that someone in your party does not meet, simply let the Cast Member standing in the front of the line know that you would like to child swap. They will then instruct the first portion of your group to enter the queue area while one or more adults stays behind with the child who cannot yet enjoy the attraction. Once that portion of your party is finished, they will stay behind with the child while the remainder of the adults goes on the ride. Now, you may be asking yourself – how does this make it any faster? The beauty of a child swap is that the Cast Member will then give the second party a child swap pass – which works the same way as a Disney fastpass. Without having to wait in line a second time, they will now proceed to the front of the line to ensure that the remainder of the party doesn’t have to wait outside for too long. And, if you have three or more in your group, that means that at least one person can go on the ride a second consecutive time! Now, the trick to Disney’s child swap program is that there are no signs and no advertisements announcing this procedure. If they did so, the fastpass lines would be overrun with people. But, don’t let this discourage you from partaking in this wonderful benefit – Disney made this program and has advertised it through word-of-mouth so that parents and families just like you can enjoy it. If you do not want to wait outside with your little one, you can also have the entire party go through the queue line, and when you get the front of the line, you can let the Cast Member know that you would like to child swap. They will then have a certain area where you can wait while some in your party proceed right to the attraction. The only problem with doing it this way is if your child is a bit bigger, they may not be happy literally seeing everyone in the party boarding the attraction but them. You are better off using the child swap this way if you have a child who is very young or who clearly would not like to go on the attraction either way, as they wouldn’t mind seeing everyone go without them.
