In April 2006,
Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park expanded its
Asia section to include the latest addition to the Disney “mountain range” with the
Expedition Everest® Attraction. And while this main attraction inside the park transports guests right into the heart of Asia with its heart-stopping thrills and glimpse at the ever-forbidding Yeti (otherwise known as the Abominable Snowman), there has been another addition to the village of Anandapur that has been equally as attractive to guests since its opening over a year ago – the Yak and Yeti Restaurant.
Upon its opening in late 2007, the Yak & Yeti Restaurant gave
Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park a few things it was previously missing. In addition to becoming the first full service restaurant to reside within the park’s gates, this dining establishment also brought an entirely new diverse selection of cuisine to the park. But, this dining establishment is much more than a 250-seat full service restaurant – in fact, in addition to its spacious inside, the Yak & Yeti Restaurant also has room for an additional 350 guests in its quick service restaurant that is adjacent to its main dining room.
For guests who choose the
full service option at the Yak & Yeti Restaurant, their senses will get quite an overhaul. Not only is the eatery adorned with authentic souvenirs direct from Southeast Asia to set the mood inside, but the menu is also graced by the flavors of China, Nepal and India to create an eclectic mix of flavors to delight any guests’ taste buds. For anyone looking to break out of the norm of theme park eating, delicacies such as duck with Anandapur glaze, Tempura shrimp, crispy mahi-mahi and seared miso salmon are on the menu, along with favorite such as Lo Mein, crispy honey chicken or baby back ribs.
If you are looking for an option to get you back on the move, there is also a
quick service counter at the Yak & Yeti as well. While many quick service restaurants at the
Walt Disney World® Resort serve the same type of food (burgers, chicken, fries, etc.), this one breaks that mold with its diverse menu. Counter service selections range from around three dollars for a side (including pork egg rolls, chicken fried rice and a basket of fries), while the main entrees of sweet and sour pork, shrimp Lo Mein, honey chicken, Kung Pao beef and a Mandarin chicken salad will cost you between seven and ten dollars. While you may not find a large variety of items on the menu at this quick service location like you do at other places, you can be assured that this establishment is opting for quality over quantity.
While the attractions such as Expedition Everest and the Yak & Yeti Restaurant in Asia are sure to be on everyone’s agenda at
Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, they are only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what you will find throughout the rest of the park and at the
Walt Disney World® Resort. If you are planning on visiting any of the four
