Downtown Disney West Side
The Downtown Disney area is set up into three major components – the Marketplace, the West Side and Pleasure Island. While the Marketplace is more family-friendly, the opposite side of Downtown Disney, the West Side, is the “hip” area, as many upscale and unique restaurants are located here, along with the AMC Pleasure Island 24 Theatres Complex, the DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park and Cirque du Soleil’s resident show at the Walt Disney World Resort, La Nouba.
The Downtown Disney West Side may have a great balance of dining and entertainment, but there is still a large number of shopping options at the West Side as well. These stores are very different than the ones at the Marketplace, however, as they move away from the traditional Disney gifts and souvenirs in favor of more eclectic gifts and shops. What helps define that persona is the large number of operating participants that occupy this space, meaning that they do not sell Disney merchandise at all (don’t worry though – you can still find Disney merchandise on the West Side)!
The dining options at the West Side have become just as diverse throughout the years as the dining options have. Guests here have the option of getting a gourmet meal at Wolfgang Puck’s, sampling Cuban fare at Bongos or having a Cajun-inspired meal at the House of Blues. And for those who crave sweets after a good dinner, the Candy Cauldron is the awe-inducing sugar shop right in the midst of the Downtown Disney West Side.
There may be plenty of stores and restaurants to keep guests occupied on the Downtown Disney West Side, but what this area really hangs its hat on is the entertainment. As we mentioned above, the West Side has three major entertainment venues that really draw bring huge crowds of guests to the area. While the AMC Pleasure Island 24 Theatres Complex and Cirque du Soleil provide different theatrical experiences, the DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park can provide an entire day’s worth of entertainment for your whole family!
Shops, restaurants and entertainment aside, the Downtown Disney West Side also has special events throughout the year to draw guests in, and just because this area is not a theme park doesn’t mean that it doesn’t get decked out for the holidays as well! But, no matter what time of the year you are visiting or for what reason, the Downtown Disney West Side, just like the Marketplace, has something for the entire family, whether you are looking to take a break from shopping to grab a bite to eat or are looking for a unique entertainment option away from the commotion of the theme parks!
Downtown Disney might not be a theme park in and of itself, but it is still a very important piece to the Walt Disney World Resort and its guests. In fact, Downtown Disney is an area guests want to hang out during their downtime and often end up visiting multiple times throughout their vacation. But, one way to assure that you will be able to see all of the theme parks and have enough time left over for Downtown Disney is by purchasing a ticket with the Park Hopper option, which allows you to freely move from park to park whenever you want and allows you to make the most of your time in Central Florida!
