There are so many things to coordinate before you leave, such as travel plans, hotel reservations, advanced dining reservations, rental cars, etc. One thing you may not necessarily think of pre-arranging are your tickets to the four Walt Disney World theme parks, but this is the most important part of your vacation because this is how you experience the magic of Disney that you have traveled so far for! Once you have everything for your vacation planned out, it may be a good idea to start planning the details of your vacation – for example, which parks to go to and where to eat. This can be a daunting task if you try to do it all once you arrive, as there are so many choices in front of you and your family. So, we would like to offer suggestions on how to select the right attractions for your family to make life a little easier! Our first tip would be to have a game plan on what you would all like to ride in the parks. If you have small children, you will of course have a very different plan than if there are just two adults on a trip. And while you may think that having small children with you may decrease your time in line (after all, how could it’s a small world have as long of a line as Space Mountain?), well, think again! As a matter of fact, some of the longest lines in the parks will be for the kids’ attractions and rides, so keep that top-of-mind when selecting what attractions to go on. This is where a Disney FASTPASS will become helpful to your family. A Disney FASTPASS allows you to get a ticket for a certain attraction, which will then designate you a certain time to come back and allow you to bypass the standby line and board usually within just a few minutes. The only catch to using a FASTPASS is that you can only get one at a time, and you cannot get another one until your time has bypassed on your current FASTPASS. This system was developed to help guests alleviate the wait on their in-demand rides, and if you use this system correctly, it can make selecting attractions for your family a whole lot easier. Another thing to keep in mind when selecting attractions for your family is Disney’s child swap policy. Many people don’t know about this added perk, but Disney instituted this a few years ago specifically for families who would visit and have just one small child who did not meet the height requirement, therefore forcing one adult to sit out of the attraction or forcing the whole family altogether to miss out on the fun. Now, if you are traveling with someone who does not meet this requirement, simply approach the Cast Member at the front of the attraction and ask for a child swap. They will then give you a pass that looks like a FASTPASS – this will allow for part of the family to go ahead and enter the line for the attraction while someone sits out with the child. When that portion of the group finishes the ride, the child swap pass will allow the remaining members of the party who were left behind to bypass the line in the FASTPASS entrance so that families are not waiting in line twice to ride one of their favorite attractions. Again, this policy was put into place so that even families with small children can enjoy some of the best attractions that Disney has to offer. Finally, if you are a guest at a Walt Disney World hotel, Extra Magic Hours will change the way you select your attractions altogether. Extra Magic Hours allow resort guests the opportunity to enter the parks (each park has designated days) either an hour early in the morning or stay up to three hours extra after the park closes to the general public. If you do have the luxury of Extra Magic Hours, you can save the top attractions with the largest lines for these times and use the rest of the park hours for hitting up the attractions with shorter lines. While the Extra Magic Hours still may be pretty crowded, they will be nothing like the regular park hours, so use this added benefit to your advantage when selecting the right Disney attractions for your family.
