T-REX at Downtown Disney®
Out of all of the theme parks, hotels and more at the Walt Disney World Resort, there is one place that stands above the rest as having the most choices for guests when it comes to family dining – the Downtown Disney® area. With tons of restaurants in the Downtown Disney® Marketplace, Downtown Disney Pleasure Island and Downtown Disney® West Side, there is no limit to the options – and fun – your family will have when it comes to dining while on vacation! One of the newest members of the dining family at the Downtown Disney® area is the T-REX Café in the Downtown Disney® area. Open since mid October of 2008, this restaurant is reminiscent of another Downtown Disney® Area eatery, the Rainforest Café, because of its extensive theme (and rightfully so, as the two are owned by the same company). But instead of sitting through thunderstorms and eating amongst gorillas at the Rainforest Cafe, the T-REX Café is step back into the prehistoric ages, with audio-animatronic dinosaurs filling this eatery that is soaked in sensory overload. While the bar has a coral-reef motif, complete with an aquarium in the background, there is also an “ice room” bathed in light blue light with icicles dangling from the ceiling and dinosaur fossils appearing through the frozen tundra, as well as a jungle-like setting that fills the majority of the other dining areas.
Much like the Rainforest Café, the T-REX Café has a themed menu that offers All-American courses at a moderate price range. Appetizers include T-Rexadillas or the Ice Age French Onion Soup, while entrees include the Boneyard Buffet, the Bronto Burger, the Prehistoric Panini or the Wolly Mammoth Chicken. And, of course, what’s dinner without a dessert from the section of the menu called “The End is Near,” which includes delectable dishes such as the Chocolate Extinction or Meteor Bites. In addition to the exciting dining adventure that awaits your family at T-REX, guests can also use this as a learning experience. And while you are trying to figure out the difference between a T-Rex and a Triceratops, children can also explore the gift shop (where you can Build-A-Dino) or excavate the sandbox outside to find “dinosaur bones.” This is one of the most interactive restaurants in the history of the Downtown Disney® Area, that, despite its theme, doesn’t appear to be on the verge of ‘extinction’ any time soon!
