Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Disney’s Hollywood Studios brings the big screen to life in many ways throughout this old-Hollywood-themed park, but perhaps none better than at the Voyage of the Little Mermaid attraction. Located just outside the Animation Courtyard and only a short distance from both the Hollywood Brown Derby Restaurant and Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream, this show is unique in that it uses several mediums to re-enact scenes from one of the great Walt Disney animated features of all-time, “The Little Mermaid."
This nearly 20-minute show begins with probably the most recognizable song from the movie, “Under the Sea,” being performed by Sebastian, Flounder and many of their underwater friends. But what makes this sequence unique, however, is the fact that all of these creatures are being portrayed by puppets, which are used frequently throughout the presentation. Scenes from the actual movie are also flashed on the screen as segments between the performances, which include a live Ariel, who, after finding and falling in love with Eric belts out the hit song “Part of Your World,” and a 12-feet-high by 10-feet-wide Ursula that turns Ariel into a human and takes her voice before performing “Poor Unfortunate Soul.” As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, however, this performance ends with a happy ending, as Ariel and Eric find true love despite their differences.
While the puppets and live performers will astound you, the setting in which this show takes place is even more memorable. The walls are lined with coral reef, while lasers and even a slight mist at times gives a true effect of being “under the sea.”
Whether you want to take in a performance of Voyage of the Little Mermaid to take a break from the Central Florida heat or just want to sing along to all of the great tunes from the movie, you might want to take advantage of the Disney’s Fastpass Service, which allows you to insert your theme park ticket and be issued a window of time where you can bypass the standby line and enter the show with little waiting during the period indicated on your ticket only. This is a popular show amongst families, meaning the line can get pretty long at times, so keep that in mind when checking out the waiting times for all of the attractions you plan on visiting throughout the day.
