When you think of the bloodiest, creepiest and downright goriest Halloween event in Central Florida, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios may come to mind. But what you might not realize is that after years of coming in second to that scarefest, Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has a chip on their shoulder and it’s a pretty gory chip at that!
Proving they have what it takes to scare the pants off of their guests, Busch Gardens offers seven haunted houses that don’t let up on the screams, including the brand new Blood Asylum that in its two weeks of being open has drawn out more screams, cries and runners than ever before!
The backstory of Blood Asylum is that over several decades the family-run Oglethorpe Asylum slowly went from a friendly mental hospital to a maximum security asylum with a sinister resident who likes to cut up his victims. Stu Loomis, otherwise known as “The Creature” is the most dangerous patient in the asylum and as you enter the house you are immediately overwhelmed with a sense of unease and dread and it’s then that you know “The Creature” has escaped his cell. To give you any indication just how terrifying this haunted house is, imagine being chased by a murderous psychopath through an insane asylum while creepy catatonic patients and just plain crazy patients grab at you. Pretty scary, right?
Blood Asylum alone will make your Howl-O-Scream night well worth it but it’s definitely not the only haunted house or scare zone that will have you running for the hills. Howl-O-Scream 2012 has unlocked the fear that grows in the gardens and if you survive Blood Asylum you have to get through the rest of the gardens’ fears in six other haunted houses and one terrifying scare zone.
The other new haunted house Circus of Superstition 3-D plays on everybody’s fear of clowns as crazed circus clowns challenge you to survive thirteen superstitions in their 3-D Tent of Terror! And returning haunted houses Nightshade Toy Factory: Mutation; Ultimate Gamble: Condemned; Nevermore; Zombie Mortuary; and the very popular Alone House that gives brave guests a chance to walk through the house all by themselves offer no refuge from the terror of the event.
Howl-O-Scream’s scare zones are always good for a scream and to commemorate Howl-O-Scream’s 13th anniversary the scare zone Faded Memories will incorporate a few set pieces and props from the classic haunted houses of Howl-O-Scream!
Howl-O-Scream runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from now through October 27. You can find discounted Howl-O-Scream tickets right here on Orlando Fun Tickets. Good luck!
