Tigers at Maharajah Jungle Trek at Animal KingdomImagine walking through the jungle, taking in its natural beauty as exotic plants and trees, gorgeous waterfalls, ancient architecture and wild animals surround you. It may be hard to believe there is a place that actually let’s you explore the wild so freely, let alone a place right here in Central Florida, but there is and it’s called the Maharajah Jungle Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom ®. And if you’re looking to explore the jungle without leaving Florida, this is the perfect escape.

The Maharajah Jungle Trek is a self-guided walking tour that takes guests on a relaxing journey into the mystical Anandapur Royal Forest of Southeast Asia where some of the world’s most exotic wildlife roams and crumbling ruins paint a picture of the cultures of northern Asia from years past.

As you begin your walk into the deep Asian forest, you’ll instantly feel transported half way around the world as ancient art and architecture surround you. As you take in the stunning art and architecture, you may not even realize you’ve stumbled upon one of the world’s largest lizard – a Komodo Dragon. This incredible creature can be spotted lounging near a cascading waterfall at the beginning of the trek. Seeing the Komodo within minutes of entering the forest will have you wondering what other exotic species you will come across as you walk through the jungle.

After marveling at the giant lizard, head on to the Bat Cliffs where you’ll see, well, bats of course! Two different species including Rodrigues Fruit bats and Malayan Flying Fox bats are seen hanging from vines and trees in the Bat Community. If you’re not too afraid to go near, you’ll see they really are quite fascinating creatures as they sometimes wrap themselves in their wings to stay warm or fan themselves to stay cool.

And while both the Komodo and bats are fascinating stops on the walk, one of the most popular spots would have to be the Tiger Forest. Here, deep in the heart of India live six female Asian Tigers. Guests can marvel at their beauty through several different viewing areas, including the bridge at the end of the section.

Komodo dragons, bats and tigers are just the tip of the wildlife fun you’ll encounter on your Maharajah Trek. Other animals you may come across include Blackbuck and Elds Deer, as well as more than 50 species of exotic birds like Palawan Peacock Pheasants, White-rump Shamas, Fruit Doves, Indian Rollers, Masked Plovers and King Parrots.
