After months of rumors, the infamous “Sounds Dangerous - starring Drew Carrey” attraction at Walt Disney World’s® Hollywood Studios™ will finally close in early spring 2012. Disney® confirmed this week that the attraction will close and be completely removed from the park map by May of next year. The attraction is currently listed as seasonal opening, but has not operated regularly for years. Its recent openings have been during busy times in the park such as the opening of Star Tours last year.
The Sounds Dangerous Theater, otherwise known as “The ABC Sound Studio” will be used as a temporary home for a Comedy Warehouse limited engagement from Dec. 25 – 31, 2011. “The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special,” which is being offered to boost entertainment offerings during the bust Christmas week, will present the best of improvisational comedy as performers – including alumni from the Comedy Warehouse on Pleasure Island – take suggestions from guests and add their own brand of humor.
The performers will reinvent holiday classics based on audience suggestions, including holiday songs, stories, poems and movie scenarios.
After that we’re not sure what will replace the “Sounds Dangerous” attraction, but some rumors point to a new Star Wars-themed show, while others believe that the American Idol Experience should be closing sooner than previously through, freeing more space for a major, new attraction.
We’ll just have to wait and see what Disney® has in store for the theater. In the meantime, you can still enjoy the 12-minute audio show until May 2012. “Sounds Dangerous” features Drew Carey as an actor who portrays a gumshoe detective who bungles his first-on camera case. When the hidden camera in his tie gets damaged, the video disappears and the theater is plunged into total darkness—leaving you to listen in as the hilarious mystery unfolds.
