Inside the Ride

There is quite a buzz brewing around the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride coming to Magic Kingdom ® in spring of 2014. Well under construction, the new family coaster is slowly inching towards its grand opening with the track now completed and mine carts waiting to coast at the New Fantasyland.

With the track completed and most of the mine carts in Disney’s ® possession, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is now finally starting to look like a roller coaster! Construction walls are still up around the site but it is reassuring to know that progress is being made even when we can’t see it.

In addition to the track being completed and the carts arriving, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has also been confirmed to have a height requirement of 38 inches. This is shorter than the three mountains rides (Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain) at Magic Kingdom ® but we’re sure there is good reason for it.

While it may seem like the progress of the new coaster is taking forever, Disney ® promises it is because they want to take their time and make sure the magic is perfected when they open. We can’t argue with that and we hope it is perfection, or at least the usual magic we are used to experiencing from Disney ® when it opens in spring 2014.

If you haven’t already heard, the Seven Dwarf Mine Train will take families inside the Seven Dwarfs Mine “where a million diamonds shine.” Along the way you’ll be serenaded with songs form the Disney ® film as you rock back and forth, responding to the twists and turns of the track. The attraction will of course feature all seven dwarfs and other characters from the animated film.

Truly a family coaster, the ride won’t be as fast or tumultuous as other Disney ® coasters. It will vary in speed, slowing down at times just like usual dark-rides, then speeding up for higher-speed thrills both indoors and out.  It will also feature a new ride system which simulates the swaying and tipping you would expect to experience in an actual mine cart.

Stay tuned for more details on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train progress.
