Theme Park News

SeaWorld Orlando announced today that its Penguin Encounter, Friends of the Wild gift shop and Antarctic Market Restaurant will all close beginning January 3 to make way for some new adventures to open spring, 2013.

But just because the Penguin Encounter will be closing doesn’t mean there won’t be other penguin attractions to enjoy. A new indoor area, Antarctica – Empire of the Penguin will replace the Penguin Encounter in 2013.

Antarctica – Empire of the Penguin will be SeaWorld’s biggest-ever attraction expansion and no journey SeaWorld has ever brought you will be as incredible as Antarctica – Empire of the Penguin will be. SeaWorld Orlando describes it as “a voyage to the bottom-of-the-world, to the coldest and windiest continent, to a place of ice more than 9,00 feet thick. It’s a journey to Antarctica and the empire of the penguin.”

The one-of-a-kind ride is an incredible family adventure where the sights, sounds and amazing encounters found will surround guests in the frozen place. You’ll experience the mystical life on the ice through the eyes of a penguin, sensing the beauty and sometimes drama of their life in the wild. And the best part is you’ll encounter a different adventure each time. Antarctica – Empire of the Penguin combines closer-than-ever animal connections with state-of-the-art interactive ride technologies for adventures that are different on every ride.

With a year-and-a-half before its opening, details about SeaWorld Orlando’s Antarctica attraction are few. But the Orlando theme park did have this to say about the newest attraction to hit the park in 2013:

“Only SeaWorld and its parks can take you on these journeys or bring these experiences to life,” said Orlando Parks President, Terry Prather. “We’re excited about what the future holds for our parks and for our fans.”

In addition to the Penguin Encounter closing a few other rides and attractions at SeaWorld will shut down temporarily in the New Year. Journey to Atlantis will also be closed for refurbishment from January 2 to January 24, 2012 for annual maintenance, while Wild Arctic will be briefly closed “for conversion from The Polar Express Experience” from January 2 to January 6, 2012.

To experience Penguin Encounter one last time before its closing in January, as well as all of the other aquatic fun SeaWorld Orlando has to offer, you can find discounted tickets right here on SeaWorld Orlando tickets start at just $67.00 for adults and $59.00 for children.
