The year 2012 has been the year Walt Disney World ® reinvents the queue line. To ensure all guests are entertained at all times, even when waiting in line, the Orlando theme park has added several new interactive queues to the parks including the Big Top at Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride in Storybook Circus in the New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom ®. And when Epcot ® opened the reinvented Test Track, presented by Chevrolet earlier this month it too came with a unique hands-on queue that’ll have you speeding through fun.
The attraction has been called “a-first-of-its-kind-multi-sensory virtual experience in automotive design” so if that’s any indication of what the Test Track queue is like get ready for state-of-the-art technology and a queue experience you’ve never encountered before anywhere else at Disney ®, or any other theme park for that matter.
First, guests will enter the new “Chevrolet Design Center” where they can see how cars are made. You’ll then put on your designer hat in the interactive queue area and have the opportunity to design your very own car, truck or crossover. Chevrolet designer tips and hints built into the experience will even help you create the perfect vehicle.
It begins by drawing a vehicle outline on a computer screen. If you’ve never drawn a car before don’t let this scare you, the computer tells you where to draw your lines to ensure a smooth outline. Once you have the outline of the car, the computer will let you make small adjustments to the line that will maximize your vehicles attributes. If you adjust the lines, you can play around with the vehicle’s power, responsiveness, efficiency and capability.
From there you’ll choose the vehicle’s shape, length, width and engine, which include Solar Drive, EV Hybrid and Plasma Burner. You’ll then choose the face, paint color, wheel size and add any accessories you may want before taking your new vehicle out for a test drive on track surfaces that simulate the actual vehicle validation process that Chevrolet engineers use on new vehicles. Each design will be evaluated and scored based on how well your design held up on the track.
Guests will even be able to see how their vehicle fares ever-changing terrain and extreme conditions on a digital driving table. You’ll then be able to produce and share a TV commercial starring your custom made vehicle and pose for action shots in front of your design, all while you wait to experience Test Track!
