It may not officially be summer yet but temperatures in Orlando are already heating up. If you have plans to visit Universal Orlando for the unofficial start of summer this Memorial Day Weekend or beyond here are the best rides, play areas and indoor spots to stay cool:
One of the best ways to beat the heat this summer while still enjoy the excitement of Universal Orlando is to take a ride on one of the park’s many “wet rides.” Islands of Adventure has plenty of wet rides that are guaranteed to cool you off on a hot summer day.
With 1.5 million gallons of water used in Jurassic Park River Adventure, it’s one of the wettest rides in the park. And as if that wasn’t enough to cool you down, the ride ends with an 85-foot drop down a waterfall where you’ll feel the spray from the waterfall as you drop to a pool at the bottom.
Over at Toon Lagoon guests can take a watery flume ride on the thrilling Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls. One of Islands of Adventure’s wettest rides, Ripsaw Falls won’t just get you wet it’ll get you soaked. That’s due in part to the final drop that plunges guests 15 feet below the water line!
Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge Rat Barges will take guests on a rapid adventure where you’ll not only get wet from both the choppy waters that often times flood your boat as you float along but also the kids who dump buckets of water and shoot water cannons into your raft at the rides interactive play area, “Me, Ship the Olive.”
If you’re traveling to Islands of Adventure with kids who aren’t tall enough to ride these “wet rides” there are some great play areas that offer plenty of splashes and even some indoor fun when water just won’t do.
Within the If I Ran the Zoo play area is a cage made of water specifically designed for trapping beasts, or brothers and sisters and is one of the funniest ways for kids to stay cool while exploring their imagination.
Jurassic Park Discovery Center is also a great place to keep the kids entertained and out of the heat as it is an indoor oasis where you can examine dinosaur eggs. Test your DNA to see what kind of dinosaur you would make, and even witness a baby velociraptor hatch.
Over at Universal Studios the Curious George Goes To Town area kids can drench themselves or each other with the town’s many pumps, valves, hoses and levers. It’s the perfect spot for your curious little ones. Fievel’s Playland also offers some wet fun with a twisting, turning 200-foot long water slide! And don’t forget the many of indoor, air-conditioned shows like Men in Black Alien Attack, Shrek 4D, E.T. Adventure and more.
