Imagine a place where you can get a real Krusty certified meat sandwich from Krusty Burger, a doughnut from Lard Lad and grab a Duff beer. Can you picture it? If you can but you only see it in animation form get ready to experience a real-life Springfield when Universal Orlando opens a replica of the animated town from The Simpsons this summer!
The Orlando theme park announced last week that it will be expanding the area around The Simpsons Ride. The expansion will, for the first time, take guests into the world of the dysfunctional animated family and the town they live through places and foods pulled right from the long-running television series. There will also be a brand-new outdoor attraction to go along with the current ride and two new Simpsons characters, Krusty the Clown and Sideshow Bob will be added, further taking fans inside the show.
"This will be a must-see experience for Simpsons fans all over the world," said Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative. "For the first time ever, they're going to be able to enter a world that they've only seen on television – and we're really excited to bring that world to life."
It all begins with a walk down Fast Food Boulevard where guests can finally get a taste of the foods and drinks Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa and Maggie consume on a weekly basis. Snatch the catch of the day at the Frying Dutchman, get a slice at Luigi’s Pizza, enjoy a “Taco Fresho” inside Moe’s Tavern where you can also gulp down a Duff beer, which has been made exclusively for the new area. And of course, visitors will be able to chow down on Homer’s favorite foods, a Krusty Burger and doughnut from Lard Lad.
The new attraction, which is called Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl is a spinner ride that will take “foolish humans” on an intergalactic journey that has been designed to send them into orbit.
As for The Simpsons Ride, it will remain up and running and will actually be the center point of the new Springfield.
Stay tuned for more details on the Simpsons expansion and all of its new restaurants and attractions.
