Inside the Ride

Walt Disney World announced a summer 2017 opening for the new themed land tied to the hit film “Avatar.”

Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek gave a construction update on Pandora – The World of Avatar during the D23’s Destination D: Amazing Adventures presentation last month.

The attraction, which is under construction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will feature floating mountains and bioluminescent rainforest plants, as well as a ride along the fictional Na’vi River. The family-friendly ride ends with an unforgettable encounter with a Na’vi Shaman, a figure who has a deep connection to the life force of Pandora. There will also be the Avatar Flight of Passage excursion will allow guests to ride a Banshee over the world of Pandora.

Chapel said of the Banshee ride, "it's multi-sensory in a way that raises the bar higher than we've ever raised the bar before. There are elements of it that you will say are familiar, but the way things are integrated create a form of reality that we've not yet experienced."

Disney did not announce a specific date within the summer of 2017 time frame.
