SeaWorld Orlando’s Kraken coaster is about to get a whole lot more thrilling thanks to the epic new virtual reality experience that takes riders on a deep sea mission, past ancient sea creatures at speeds of 65 miles per hour!
Kraken Unleashed is now open at the park and ready for coaster fans. After guests are secured into their seats, they will be prompted to strap on virtual reality goggles. The goggles, which fit tightly over riders’ faces, will help them see many sea creatures that are inspired by extinct and legendary animals of the past, including the Kraken.
Note: Riders have the option to not wear the VR headset for the classic Kraken experience.
“You’re in an underwater world and you get to go in a submarine. The experience you’re gonna have is quite beautiful,” explained Brian Morrow, Vice President of Theme Park Experience Design for SeaWorld Orlando in a statement. “It’s all sea creatures. You get to go on this tour and a volcanic eruption happens, which opens a crack in the bottom of the ocean floor and in you get sucked. This is the drop into the first inversion of the ride – and then you’re in this imaginary and legendary world of sea creatures.”
As you bump into sea creatures, you will still experience the same flips, drops and high speeds of the original roller coaster, only now things are a bit more stimulating with the virtual reality goggles.
In addition to the VR experience, Kraken’s queue has also been updated. The new Kraken creature is now featured in the cave and instead of bright yellows and reds, the colors are now blues, light greens and white. Posters have also been added to create a more “research facility” feel.
