It’s a battle that has been building for centuries and last Thursday Orlando saw first-hand the destruction that will come when Transformers: The Ride 3D debuts at Universal Orlando this summer. The attack came early Thursday morning when video footage of a giant alien-like robot crashed through the Fairwinds Credit Union building in Downtown Orlando. The assault damaged cars lining the street, cut down trees in its path and left one giant warning to humans – an 80-foot-tall image of a Decepticon and the phrase, “Prepare for Battle June 20.”
Hours later, Universal Orlando responded to the destruction with an all-new “Join the Resistance” Facebook page. The new page prepares guests for the battle they’re about to encounter on the ride. According to Universal’s press release, “Recruits” can create their very own NEST IDs, train for battle, access exclusive photos and video and win prizes – including a trip to the attraction’s grand opening celebration on June 20.”
And while all of this chaos may be a have been disheartening to hear, none of it comes as a surprise. Earlier this year, Autobot leader Optimus Prime warned residents and guests in Orlando of the inevitable Decepticon. He, with his silent partner Bumblebee made a surprise appearance during Universal Studio’s Cinematic Spectacular where the two assured us that humans would be protected no matter what came our way.
Since then Optimus Prime and Bumblebee have occupied the park, taking pictures with and even talking with guests guaranteeing our safety and the destruction of the Decepticons. But in recent months, Evil lord Megatron, leader of the Decepticons has also popped up in the park, guaranteeing that Optimus Prime and the Autobots will not be able to save the human race this time.
It will all come down to the actual ride, or shall we say battle, which begins when guests enter the NEST facility that partners with Autobots to protect Earth from the Decepticons. Once inside, you’re immediately recruited to help protect the All-Spark, a powerful energy source that if fallen into the wrong hands could destroy Earth. Riders will then board the Autobot EVAC that has been created specifically for the attraction, and help transport the All-Spark to safety, but not without a little trouble from the Decepticons.
