Peter Pan’s Flight has been flying guests to Neverland for almost five decades. As one of the most popular attractions in the Magic Kingdom, it’s no wonder that this Fantasyland ride has become a must do for guests both young and old. To celebrate this classic Disney attraction, we’re sharing six flying facts about Peter Pan’s Flight!
An Original Disney Attraction
There are certain Disney Parks attractions that have become classics over the years, and Peter Pan’s Flight is definitely one of them. It was actually an opening day attraction at Walt Disney’s original park, Disneyland! All these years later, this Fantasyland attraction is still in operation at Disneyland today.
Not A Magic Kingdom Opening Day Attraction
Although Peter Pan’s Flight was an opening day attraction at Disneyland, it wasn’t at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Despite popular belief, this attraction actually opened by October 25, 1971 -- over 20 days after the theme park opened. October 25, 1971 was Walt Disney World’s Dedication Day during the three-day grand opening celebration though, so it’s still a pretty significant date!
Peter Pan may be found throughout the attraction now, but that wasn’t always the case. The attraction originally had no sign of Peter Pan because guests were supposed to be experiencing the ride through his point of view! After tons of complaints from guests wondering where he was on the attraction, Peter Pan was eventually added.
Longest Wait Times
Despite being a slower moving attraction, Peter Pan’s Flight is still one of the most popular attractions in all of Magic Kingdom. With consistent wait times of 45 minutes or more, the best ways to ride the attraction without a wait are by heading here first at park opening or securing a FastPass+ reservation.
If you do decide to wait in the attraction’s standby line, you’re going to experience one of Disney’s famous interactive queues! Back in 2015, Walt Disney World created a walk-through interactive queue for guests including various rooms in the Darling home. One of the best spots to spend time in is the nursery where guests can watch Tinkerbell fly around and interact with Wendy, John, and Michael’s toys!
Flights Around The Globe
Peter Pan’s Flight has left such a mark on the Disney Parks that it can be found in parks all over the world! There are currently five different versions of the attraction. The first two opened in the United States at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and the third opened in Tokyo Disneyland in 1983. When Disneyland Paris was constructed, Peter Pan’s Flight was a part of the park’s plans as well and opened with the park in 1992. The newest version of Peter Pan’s Flight can be found in Shanghai Disneyland, and since it was built over 20 years after Disneyland Paris’ version in 2016, it features enhancements that others don’t have.
As you can see, Peter Pan’s Flight is an exciting part of Disney Parks history and a definite must do for Disney lovers of all ages. So, the next time you spend a day in the Magic Kingdom, don’t forget to take flight with Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinkerbell, and the rest of the Neverland gang!
