Despite the nickname the “Sunshine State,” Florida experiences plenty of rain showers, especially in the hot summer months. So what do you do when you have a day planned at an Orlando theme park or somewhere else outside? Here are the top 10 ways to still enjoy the city when it rains:
Soar Indoors
You don’t have to be outside to experience some of Orlando’s many thrills. At iFly Indoor Skydiving you can soar high in the sky thanks to wind tunnel technology. Kids ages 3 and up can feel what it is like to skydive without stepping foot outside!
Splash at a Water Park
As long as it’s not lightning and thundering, an Orlando water park is the perfect place to go when it is raining. Crowds usually evacuate when the rain begins so lines are shorter and the park is overall less busy. Plus, it can be hot during a rain shower, so slipping and sliding down Volcano Bay’s Krakatau Aqua Coaster or Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon’s Miss Adventure Falls is a great way to stay cool.
Enjoy a sweet treat
Rain is the perfect excuse to head indoors and grab a treat while you wait out the shower. Orlando is home to several sweet spots including Toothsome Chocolate Emporium at Universal Orlando where you can grab a massive milkshake. There is also Sugar Factory on I-Drive and Sprinkles cupcakes at Disney Springs.
Indoor Games
If your family loves playing games make sure you check out some of Orlando’s many indoor game activities. Challenge the family to a game of bowling at Splitsville at Disney Springs. The bowling alley also offers 5 bars, billiards, live music and excellent food in the full service restaurant and sushi bar. Andretti Indoor Karting and Games have lots of options to escape the rain including electric karting, arcade, racing simulators, laser tag and more.
Go to Battle
At Hard Knocks you won’t just play laser tag, you’ll go to war. Everything feels real including the metal guns and the numerous urban-themed arenas offering over 80 combat missions. Hard Knock boasts the world’s largest combat entertainment armory.
Check Out a Museum
Expand your mind with a visit to an Orlando museum. The Orlando Science Center offers up-close interactions, live demos and lots of exhibits. Learn more about the U.S. Presidents and explore artifacts and memorabilia at the Presidents Hall of Fame. Art lovers will love perusing the permanent collection of American, African and ancient American art at the Orlando Art Museum.
Take Selfies with Celebrities
This one is fun to do even when it doesn’t rain. Madame Tussauds Orlando is home to a slew of famous icons from around the world. They are all made of wax of course but nonetheless look extremely real. Pose with Marilyn Monroe, Taylor Swift, Elvis Presley, Albert Einstein, Justin Bieber and even Walt Disney himself.
Head to Outer Space
Take flight on your next rainy day visit in Orlando and head to Kennedy Space Center. Get the chance to see Space Shuttle Atlantis and the world’s most realistic simulation of a space shuttle launch. View space from an astronaut’s perspective at the IMAX theater and even eat lunch with an astronaut.
Become an Artist
The Crayola Experience at the Florida Mall is a great place to head indoors during an Orlando rain shower. Budding artists can explore 25 colorful attractions and let their imagination run wild. Even adults will love exploring the unique Crayola fun.
Explore the World’s Oceans
