In celebration of the upcoming live-action film, The Lion King, The Walt Disney Company is launching “a global campaign to raise awareness of the crisis facing lions.”
The campaign will support the Lion Recovery Fund and its partners to help advance conservation across Africa, including the goal to double the number of lions in the wild by 2050. As part of the efforts, Disney is releasing two new Special Edition plushes.
Each of the 40,000 of the plush represents one of the lions whose future Disney and the Lion Recovery Fund are working to ensure.
The plush are $19.00 each. For every one sold globally, the company will donate US $5 to the Wildlife Conservation Network in support of the Lion Recovery Fund and its local partners.
Additionally, Disney has announced that for every guest who rides the Kilimanjaro Safari attraction in Animal Kingdom from July 19-25, 2019, the Disney Conservation Fund will donate $2.00 to the Lion Recovery Fund’s efforts.
The lions are available at Mombasa, Island Mercantile and Discovery Trading Company at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Starting July 1, guests can find them at Emporium, Mouse Gear, World of Disney and more locations at Walt Disney World.
Disney’s The Lion King hits theaters July 19, 2019.
