How Adults Do Disney

For families going on vacation, Disney is an obvious option, but not many people realize the vast number of experiences geared towards adults that are fun, unique, and romantic. While a lot of families do vacation to the magical world of characters, rides, and adventure, Walt Disney World is also an extremely popular destination for honeymooners. If you are looking to take a vacation without children, don't discount the family friendly Disney. There are multitudes of experiences available that are meant especially for the over 21 crowd. There are a lot of different ways to have the Walt Disney World experience as an adult. You can still do the standard characters and rides vacations, or you can enjoy more adult specific experiences.

Staying In Disney

While the budget hotels on Disney property are fantastic for families with kids who will be thrilled by the larger than life Disney characters, toys, and props, adults will likely enjoy staying at the moderate or deluxe resorts more than resorts such as Disney's Art of Animation. The moderate resort hotels include charming options that still bring the theming Disney is so known for. The Port Orleans Resorts, for example, bring Louisiana to life and allow boat rides to Downtown Disney right from the resort.

If you are willing to spend a bit more money, the deluxe resorts offer several options. The Epcot Resorts (Swan & Dolphin, Boardwalk, Yacht Club, and Beach Club) have boat services to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios, and are within walking distance of both parks. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is another nice option that brings animal life to your backyard, and the Grand Floridian brings all of the luxuries found in hotels such as the Waldorf Astoria and Ritz Carlton to Disney.

Night Activities

Even though Disney's nightclubs in Pleasure Island are no longer open, there are still plenty of activities adults can enjoy after dark. Several restaurants and bars found in Downtown Disney still exist and offer plenty of nighttime entertainment to guests. Bongos, Paradiso 37, and Raglan Road are popular choices. Disney's Boardwalk hotel has a boardwalk that features several restaurants and the dueling piano bar, Jellyrolls, that are sure to entertain adults, though may prove less than stimulating for small children (under 21 are not able to enter Jellyrolls).

You don't have to leave the parks to find quality bars, some of the most well-loved watering holes are found within the theme parks, with the exception of Magic Kingdom, which only serves alcohol at the Be Our Guest restaurant. In Animal Kingdom you can visit Dawa Bar, in Epcot, La Cava del Tequila, and in the Hollywood Studios you can find the Tune-In Lounge inside of the 50's Prime Time Café.

Disney is gradually becoming more well-known for it's food options. There are a lot of quality restaurants found in the Walt Disney World resort. Many of them are found in hotels, but a lot of nice restaurants are still found within the theme parks. One of the main advantages to eating within the parks is the convenience, but for a truly unique experience with fewer crowds, the hotel restaurants are a perfect option, and with free bus transportation to the theme parks from the hotels and back again, it is easy and affordable to visit a hotel for a meal.

Attractions and Activities

While some may argue that the roller coasters and other rides that include a height requirement are "adult" rides, most would agree that these are still, by and large, family friendly. Disney doesn't have many set attractions that are geared toward adults, but activities that can be done in the parks, while not on a map, can certainly be meant for the older vacationers among us. Taking some of the behind the scenes tours offered by Disney may not be incredibly thrilling for the smaller Mickey Mouse fans, but for adults they can offer a new and entertaining way to see the parks. Other adult activities include drinking around the world in Epcot.

Other Adventures

Every trip to Disney offers the opportunity to experience something new. There is no shortage to the activities available. Many resort hotels on property offer special spa experiences for singles or couples. Also available are opportunities to take cruises, drive a race car, go golfing, and much more. Guests must simply be willing and able to book in advance and pay the costs associated with the experience.
